Rapid Reaction clutch?

On my 2015 900-S EPS, does it have the 'Rapid Reaction' clutch? I'm about to replace my belt with a Gates, and I've reviewed several videos. I just want to know which one it is.

The clutch will not determine which belt you get but you do have the rapid reaction style.

I know but it looks like the method for removing the old belt might be a little easier. In the video, the guy doesn't use the tool to spread the plates, he just squeezes the belt with his hand. I'll try that technique on mine and see if it works.

Re: Rapid Reaction clutch?

Yeah, there's nothing "easy" about it...

I've read that the right sized oil filter wrench used on the hub of the secondary works to rotate the outer sheave and separate them, but I have not tried it.

When you're walking the belt off and on, make sure the primary clutch doesn't rotate clockwise.

Re: Rapid Reaction clutch?

Same setup as you here. Replaced my OEM belt with the Gates.

1. Remove the driver side rear grease zerk (way easier to remove the belt cover).
2. Remove the belt cover (8mm socket with extension).
3. Squeeze the upper and lower parts of the belt in the middle. This should release the spindles enough to remove the belt. If you can't squeeze it enough, tie a thin rope over the upper and lower and tie into a loop. Then place the socket extension into the rope and twist until the belt squeezes fully.
4. The OEM belt (for me at least) got stuck around the rear clutch wheel. I had to really work it to get it to come off.
5. The Gates belt goes on easier than removing the OEM.
6. Reverse the process from there.
7. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

Re: Rapid Reaction clutch?

I use an oil filter wrench like this one to help with rotating the clutch as I walk it off. Works great.

Re: Rapid Reaction clutch?

Just remove the retaining bolt on the rapid reaction and it will fall right open and let you roll the belt right off.

Re: Rapid Reaction clutch?

This thread had some good suggestions - get a piece of rubber or wood cut to the same angle as the secondary sheaves in the driven clutch to wedge open the secondary and make it easier to get the belt on (or off, though off is much easier -- just pull up or push down on the belt when it's in to loosen up the secondary).
