Gates drive belt

After 1700 miles of abuse I finally killed my gates 27C4159 drive belt. Is this part number still the preferred gates replacement belt?

Re: Gates drive belt

While I carry a gates belt as a spare to my stock belt because it was rated high, doesn't string apart on failure, and the price is great; If I were buying a new belt today I would get the Hunterworks belt. Look it up on here. Todd knows his stuff on the clutching and belts on the RZRs like no one else, and he had his belts specially designed based on all of his experience and research.

Iím really glad you mentioned Hunterworks as I forgot about their belts. I have their roller kit in my secondary. Iíll give their belt a try this time, thank you!

Re: Gates drive belt

Thanks for the comments

On that belt, the inside teeth are gone because it is too short. You must do random high speed runs not a lot of high speed stuff. It has too much belt travel since it is too short.

We ride a good mix, some high speed, some slow technical trails. In this case we were making some high speed runs through sand washes. When the belt came apart I had mistakenly left the RzR in low range and was hitting some pretty high rpms, like 8700 according to my navigator. 8300 to 8350 in high range after I put the OEM Polaris belt on. All this with a Dalton clutch kit and your secondary rollers installed and 30” tires, at about 3500’ ASL. In a few months we’ll be at much higher elevations.

I placed an order online with you for one of your replacement belts yesterday.

I found out it is 1/8" too short and at full travel it pulls into the center of the secondary and pulls teeth out, only does it at high rpm in low or high

This video explains clutch travel and the use of a washer so watch it then at the end a link for the first version of this video has more info on the gates too

For my application, I don't need the added washer, correct? 2018 RzR S 1000.

Re: Gates drive belt

Oh yeah, applies to anything 1000 in my book.

If you are running a gates that is too short or even the stock belt, overtravel needs to be checked. No reason this does not apply to any 1000, same distance between shafts, pulleys are the same etc

My gates belt I got from Todd just started doing that this past weekend. What do I need to do to fix this? My rzr is a 2016 xp4 1000.

Re: Gates drive belt

Look into doing the spacer in your primary when replacing your belt.
It is worth a try to use one of the new Hunterworks thin belts and judge for yourself on how it performs.

The spacer can be installed with the primary on the car if you donít have the removal tool.
Donít over tighten your bolts.

Clean everything with a scotch bright pad and air.

After we started making our own belts we stopped selling the gates then later on after slight change in our belt, I was doing a belt travel test on it, thought we had an issue and checked the gates and OE and that is when I found out it was 1/8" too short and will cause this at high speed.

Re: Gates drive belt

So Todd, I ordered the thick primary spacer this morning, I should mark the bearing in my primary prior to installing the belt (and the spacer) then make a couple of high speed runs to see if the marker is worn off, if not don’t install the spacer, if the mark is worn off then install the spacer?
