2017 1000S - Cranking Springs for Clearance?

Hey guys. Picked up a 17 1000S the other day. Quite a step up from my 800S! I'm wondering about cranking the springs for a bit more clearance. A buddy of mine cranked his all the way up for lift. Anyone have any insight on pros and cons to this? Looking to get 2 inches out of it, if it can be safely done while still ride decent.
Thanks
Todd

Give it a try, and see how it goes. If it's brand new, it will settle a bit. XP take off tires will gain you an inch, and put Big Horns under your wheels.

There are quite a few S1K spring threads. Great reading.

Congrats on the new ride!

Re: 2017 1000S - Cranking Springs for Clearance?

Thanks man! Took it out this weekend, and yes it did settle a bit. I will for sure take a look and see what I can find online for factory takeoffs, there are a ton of guys selling rims and tires off new machines up here. Factory Dirt commanders don't do too well in the deep mud, I feel the Bighorns will be better.
Will post an update in about a weeks time when I crank the springs. She sits low right now due to the settling.

Re: 2017 1000S - Cranking Springs for Clearance?

Also,
One more question. I haul the thing on a rack on my truck and tow a bumper pull camper. So the front end is on top of my truck. I use the winch to snug it up, is there any issue with that and the springs? I was told to snug it down with the winch so that there is no suspension movement so the unit won't move. I'm wondering if this may be wrong and may lead to spring failure. Any thoughts?

I haul mine on my bed cover similar to your setup and strap it down so it's suspension can move. It absorbes a lot of the road that way and isn't an issue. If yours is above the cab, total height may be an issue. Shouldn't hurt the springs either way unless it's really compressed far for long periods.

Thanks for the insight. I am good for total height, was more or less wondering about the springs. Next trip out I will try just winching it a bit and not until the suspension doesn't move.
I'm sure it will be fine I just do not want to wear the springs out by doing this!

You will lose ride quality by increasing spring preload past the factory spec for 13.5" clearance. If you ride smooth trails or don't mind a little extra jolt in bumps then go for it. My 17 rode so much better than prior model that I liked the stock setting until I rode one with aftermarket springs. Save your spine now you will appreciate it later!

Good to know, I will crank a little bit and see what I end up with. Only looking for an inch or two.. Looking at getting the RTpro Heavy dual Rate Springs down the road. Seem to be able to get a bit of lift just on springs alone!

You can gain a 1.5 by cranking it up and if you remove the front sway bar it will help take some of the roughness out but we also ride a lot of dirt bikes and four wheelers so I don't complain about the ride as much as sxs only riders do

Awesome to hear, I will give it a try without the front swaybar as well!
