Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

I have a Kubota BX22370 tractor with a blade and have used it the past two winters for plowing. I have about 1/4-1/2 mile of plowing. Now that I have a RZR, I am looking for feedback from those that plow with their RZR's, I'm trying to decide if I should stick with the tractor, or buy a blade for the RZR.

The tractor is stout, has a solid heavy duty blade, but no roof & slow going. I'm thinking I could cut the plow time in half with the RZR, but I don't know if the blades available are much more than snow shovel thickness. Also I don't know if the locked rear end will be troublesome in Ice & snow.

Any real world experience would be appreciated

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

stick with the BX, I have a BX 25 with a blade and snow blower. I added a cab and heater and led light bars. Nothing like cleaning up snow in a heated cab. Look around as i picked up the snow blower and cab for short money.

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

I have used the ATV for plowing for years in Eastern and Western Wa with great success. Haven't tried it yet with my UTV but I think it would be even better than my ATV.
Fastest way to do it. I also have had to plow over a 1/4 mile.
My neighbors used their tractors and after they saw me, every one switched to using their ATV or UTV.
No wrong answer, just a difference in time and or money and convenience.

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

my 900 XC plows great, no complaints at all with it. The Denali plow I have is very thick and heavy duty so it should last a while. That being said, if i had a tractor to plow with i would stick with that. I found out the hard way you cant ride with the plow mount bolted to the machine unless you want to replace it. It didn't fair well at all to even one trail ride. The Polaris mount seems to be much more tucked in but overall I would stick with the tractor. Personal opinion

Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

I bought a rear mount snow blower (52Ē wide and over 24Ē tall) for my Kubota bx2360. Way too much snow in West Michigan for plowing with the rzr.

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

This might be a little off topic because I don't have a tractor and I just got my first RZR, but I think I have some useful input that might help you decide. I plowed snow with 2 wheel drive small displacement ATV's for years but always on asphalt. I have a neighbor who has a bobcat and he used that to plow. We live in a residential neighborhood, so no 1/2 mile long driveways, but I plowed a lot of 60- 100 foot driveways and a little 48 inch plow usually worked fantastic. I could easily do 3 driveways to his one. My plow was nothing fancy, it was an old cycle country from the 90's and not made of any super thick steel. Just recently sold it, and while it didn't look great It always worked great. That being said I was so confident in my ATV plowing experiences that I immediately purchased a 66 plow kit for my 900,(which I haven't even mounted yet) and I have no doubt it will work and hold up well for our usually mild NJ winters. In your case if your on gravel or get regular amounts of heavy (12+) snow I don't thing a plow on the RZR is the way to go, I too would suggest staying with the much more solid set up a tractor will give you.

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

I plow with my little Yamaha Bruin on gravel. Even with the limited suspension travel it has, it's a pain to keep from plowing the gravel itself, or leaving snow. The suspension causes the plow to move up and down too much for my liking. On pavement, it wouldn't be a big deal, that's what the bottom buttons/feet are for. They don't work in gravel.

I couldn't imagine trying to plow with my RZR, having 2x or more suspension travel I know it can and is done, but I think a tractor w/o a suspension would be easier.

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

I have a John Deere 2030 that I used for years to clean my driveway and parking areas. My driveway is 100 yards long and gravel.

5 years ago I bought a blade for my Honda Forman and never looked back.

The only time I need the tractor is for big drifts or deep snow maybe once or twice a year.

The atv is so much more quicker and maneuverable. Does a better job than the tractor as well.

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

Maybe I should add...

My problem is the hills and dips in the drive and road at my place are the reason I have problems...

Since I haven't tried it with a tractor, maybe it's just the old, 'The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence'.

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

Thank you all for the feed back. Probably not gonna spend the money on a blade & winch for the RZR and just keep using the tractor (at least this winter). On that note, it's snowing right now, we had a nice 4 days of Fall though.....

Here's mine, works great, fully enclosed my cab and have the Motoalliance heater. Built my own dual electric windshield wiper setup also.

Re: Snow plowing (Yup winters coming)

I am starting my third season of plowing with my RZR Trail. I have about a 1/4mile of road to plow and it works just fine for the job.
