Trail to XP conversion

I知 pretty surprised that no one has converted one of the new 900 models to the XP suspension yet. I have been looking into doing this for a while and the most recent XP conversion info I can find was from Makin Trax back in the 800 days. Any who, I知 In the process of a full XP Swap. I知 hoping to be into this for less than $2,000, we will see I知 already 1,500 into it so I might go over just a little bit. I was able to get a complete suspension off of a 14 xp1k for 1,300. Came with all four walker evans shocks front control arms tie rods ball joints rear trailing arms 2 sets of radius rods and sway bar.

I have been buying knuckles and other small parts off of eBay. I plan on doing this on the cheaper side, so used parts are mostly what it is going to built out of.

I知 hoping some of you guys on here can help me out with specs measurements and questions on the XP suspension stuff. I致e never rode in one so it will be pretty neat to take this bastard child out once it is done.

This was the last ride as a 50.

Waiting on the front axles to come in the mail. Also figured out that none of the hubs will swap over so I will be on the hunt for 4 of those.

Starting with the front before I tackle the rear. I figure the trailing arms are going to get shortened down some. I think they are going to be longer and have more travel than a xp900. And I want to use the rear shocks that I got from that xp1k. Probably have to cut holes in the bed as well.

I thought about something half-way similar. XP front suspension, use XP rear axles and build some longer A-arms for the rear to get the width and extra travel. It wouldn't be the same travel as an XP rear, but neither will a shortened swing arm setup, most likely. It'll be interesting to see how you figure it out.

Re: Trail to XP conversion

Yes it will be interesting, but I needed a summer project. I do not think I知 going to have to shorten the trailing arms up too much. Time will tell once the front end gets done I値l move to the rear.

I got my eBay front axles in finally today couldn稚 resist bolting the old trail hubs to them to see what it would look like. So far so good, probably have the correct hubs and the rest of the parts I need to finish up the front end by the beginning of next month. It痴 going to be a slow process I have a completion date of August 1 when the new kid gets here.

Re: Trail to XP conversion

Is the tie rod bolt anything special on the older XP痴. On my trail I had a ball joint connection to the knuckle. The tie rods I got from the take of bundle we池e these in the picture below. I just put one of the 15mm bolts in it for the time, any one have a clue on this.

Pretty stoked on the ground clearance, way more than what I was expecting.

Re: Trail to XP conversion

Yeah this is badass! Updates? If you haven't got the rear suspension figured out yet, I think I would go for a double A-arm to match the front...

Re: Trail to XP conversion

I知 hoping to get some welding done this weekend. I cut out the frame supports and made some new ones out of 1x3 square tubing. If I can get those welded in this weekend I can see how much of the trailing arms I知 going to have to shorten up. I know the trailing arms take a lot of abuse and stress on them I知 kind of hoping I can 4-? Inches out of the middle and then weld them back up and put some long plates down the sides and weld those all the way around. I値l try and post up some new pics this weekend.

Re: Trail to XP conversion

How did this go? What was the issue with the trail hubs that they wouldn't work?

Pretty cool! We make a direct bolt on 64" XP conversion kit for the 2015-2016 900 models, 1000S, and 2016 General. Feel free to look through the instructions on our page if you want to see how our 64" conversion is set up. Here's a link: https://www.superatv.com/polaris-rzr...ong-travel-kit

Re: Trail to XP conversion

Ya just had to get xp brakes rotors knuckles and hubs. I had to bail on the trailing arms for now had a kid ran out of time and wanted to be able to ride this season so I put some s arms on the rear with spacers and xp1k front shocks, re welded the shock tabs. After this season I will re visit the rear again couple things I still have to figure out but oh well still get to have fun.

Re: Trail to XP conversion

Hmm. Probably not... it痴 paid for I have about a grand into the suspension upgrades as it sits now still less than doing a trail to a conversion. I live in so cal if I sold my trail I would be lucky to get 7k for it with all the upgrades I have into and beat to hell XP痴 are in the 14痴.
