Under seat storage container?

I have a 2015 XC and under the driver seat is the battery, fuse box and storage area. My 22lb tool set which includes sockets, ratchets and a tow strap fit in it perfectly however there are holes all over the place to let water drain out(and in). I've looked at every container in my house and then went to a couple dollar stores looking at Rubbermaid containers but nothing comes close to a good tight fit. I am thinking of putting down 2 sheets of thick vapor barrier plastic with a towel inside then put my tools in and curl the top up like you would a dry bag.
I could put it all in the cargo box but I'm carrying a lot back there and 22lbs nice and low will help as a counter weight. Going to be a pain in the a$$ to get to the bottom for specific sockets and all together not very functional so what are you guys using? Is the 900 Trail designed the same way under the seat?
You all probably just put something that water won't damage under there and think i'm crazy but.... yes I am LoL

Re: Under seat storage container?

Actually, that is a battery box for a second battery, or so I have been told.

Re: Under seat storage container?

Possibly but I doubt it, The XC already has a car battery in it LoL, the "storage area" is only 5x7 and there is no supports to keep an extra battery from flying around like the original battery has. Maybe they mention it in the manual, I will have a look.

EDIT: I stand corrected! In this video they install a little battery in the compartment with custom mounting hardware.

Re: Under seat storage container?

I have a 2015 XC and that spot is for a second battery. However you can do whatever you want with that area. In my opinion that area is too low and will get wet A LOT. I have a storage box in the back and some tools in the glove box. They do make a storage box/bracket for under the hood. You might want to look into that instead.

Re: Under seat storage container?

Never seen or heard of the under the hood storage before but sounds like a hell of an idea. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Under seat storage container?

I have the under hood storage container on my 900 trail and that is where I keep my tools and winching accessories. I have the tools in storage bags meant for Polaris Sportsman XP under front rack storage. You could use just about any type of waterproof bag to store the tools. I like have the tools and winch stuff under the hood as it is easy to get too unlike having to remove the seat to get to the space under the drivers seat.

Re: Under seat storage container?

I use the under seat bin for tools.

I put the tools in a gallon ziplock. Have some rags in a gallon ziplock also and the are stuffed around the tools to keep them from rattling around.

I also don't mind if the tools get wet.

I have this same question for my Xp1k4, I was thinking of using a heat gun to mold a pretzel container into shape for a waterproof seal and a wide screw on lid https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....18iQ2C-vvL.jpg

Unfortunately, I have the Polaris L&R glass windshield and wiper. The washer tank is in that area, so the under-hood storage won't fit.

I stored some tools in the under-seat (2nd battery?) area 1 time, and after having to wash all the mud off my tools, I moved them to the glove box

I like the pretzel jar solution! I think I have one of those in my junk pile for just such a reason... I may try it!

Just been checking misc containers around the house, and found that the 64oz mayo jars fit in that space with just a little play as well. They offer a wide mouth and enough room for wrenches, tire kits. air gauges, and whatever else you may need. Just stuff it with rags to keep the noise at bay and fill the void in the space remaining with a price of foam.

Well. With the help of a food saver, I got a full 3/8 set of metric sockets, wrenches, multi bit screwdriver, tire kit with plugs, air gauge, pliers, Allen wrenches, crescent wrench and a rag stuffed inside the mayo jar. With a tiny bit of room to spare for something down the line. Hope that helps someone keep their tools dry and safe !

Re: Under seat storage container?

I use the small area under the seat to put my empty crushed water bottles. Makes a good trash can. Just empty it out when I get back.
I find it gets too much water in there from water crossings.

Canít you move the windshield washer tank?

I relocated my battery to that area to make room for the extra gas tank so had to relocate the coolant overflow tank. There was still room for the Underwood storage tray.
