Cooling fan won't shut off...

2008 800
Started after rebuild. Have bled and bled and bled. Have run and run and run. Overflow always ends up at the same point when left overnight to cool.

The fan will kick in, but will not turn back off. Sometimes turning the key off, waiting a few seconds, and starting it back up will turn it off till it kicks back on. Rebuilt the top end (due to dusting) in March. Have not been able to cure this, wasn't doing it prior to rebuild. The thermostat was changed and bullet impeller was installed during rebuild.

I have since replaced the temp sensor, still no change.

I have done a bit of research, the thermostat I purchased was a quad logic 100-2070-1 which is supposed to be a replacement for Polaris part 7052352.

Quad logic also has a 100-2070 which is also a Polaris replacement for 7052352 AND 7052308. This thermostat states that it has bypass holes in it, and it has a second Polaris part number.

I have also discovered the 2008s ran cooler. Is it possible that the computer is not turning the fan off due to an incorrect thermostat operating temp. Just for example... if the computer is supposed to shut down the fan at 180, but the thermostat is 195, the engine would stay in the 190 range and the fan would never shut down.

Only other part I know of in the system to change is the 20amp circuit breaker in the wire harness under the dash.

Any other ideas?

After installing a reman in my 2012 I bled at the screw only initially. After that it took about 5 trips out , and topping up coolant bottle before it all stabilized. You cant let the bottle suck air .

Re: Cooling fan won't shut off...

It is absolutely possible if you put a higher temp thermostat in the engine that the fan would just stay on. You never mentioned at what temp the fan goes on at, and how low it drops again.

No temp reading in a 2008.
I did get it cycle off twice with the engine revved up, front 10.5 inches off the ground, and the cap off. But could not make it do it again.

Re: Cooling fan won't shut off...

It is just a hair over 10.5 inches and a bit hight on the cap side.

I have maintained the fluid almost to the very top while running and when cooling off.

It seems to have good flow as well.

Re: Cooling fan won't shut off...

From the 2008 service manual: ...if the ECT circuit is interrupted the fan will default to ON. They also suggest disconnecting the ECT and the fan should come on and "HOT" should display. Have you checked your battery connections and frame grounds? What about wiring to the ECU?

I cleaned all grounds when I did the top end, frame and all. I have sprayed/cleaned all connections with crc electrical contact cleaner.
