Stator replacement

Hey guys I just wanted to ask for any advice on replacing stator on my 08 800. Couple questions about the stator, is it possible to replace without removing engine completely? If I must remove engine, do I have to remove engine and transmission together? Thanks for your help.

Re: Stator replacement

I’m actually in the process of doing this to my buddy’s machine. His starter bendix failed, so I’m replacing the bendix, starter, stator, and rear diff pinion nut all in one shot. All VERY common failure points on the 800. You do not have to pull the engine completely. You have to remove the rear diff, unbolt the engine/trans, then hoist it up and twist it to remove the cover and access the stator/flywheel/bendix. It’s a chore, but not very difficult. I completely removed the rear suspension just to have more room. I am pecking away at this an hour or two at a time cause I’m just crazy busy, but I would guess the complete job replacing everything I mentioned could be done in a weekend by the average guy who’s never done it before(me). I’d highly recommend replacing these other items especially the pinion nut while you’re in there.

Thanks Konnecticut for your post, that is very helpful. I have read about the pinion nut issues and will definitely be looking into how to fix that as well. Thanks.
