RZR 570 Secondary question

I just replaced the primary clutch on my 2013 570. In the process, I inspected the secondary. Here's the problem though, I cannot find ANY diagrams that match the secondary I removed. The manual I have (2012 - yes mine's a 2013, but I don't have a 2013 service manual available to me) shows a shaft with a snap ring that holds the spring under tension. Every video I have seen shows the secondary with the shaft and a snap ring. They are not fastened together in any way, except for the bolt that fastens to the shaft.

My secondary is stamped "Rapid Reaction" (see pic in this link: https://www.rzrforums.net/rzr-s-900/1...on-clutch.html). The strange part is it has the spring on the BACK (gearbox side). The spring is held in with a cup and a ring with 5 screws fastened to the back gearbox side of the fixed sheave. The movable sheave just slides off the drive shaft once the bolt is removed. I don't get it.

Has anybody seen this clutch? Is mine correct and/or installed correctly? Anybody know where I can get an exploded view with parts list?

Re: RZR 570 Secondary question

Answering my own question... I found a diagram on Babbit's website. It shows the clutch 180 degrees from how mine was/is installed. Seems I'm missing a washer (#10) as well.

Re: RZR 570 Secondary question

Nothing special about yours, the 12 was different and the 13 and newer have the clutch you have now.

Other than missing #10 what is the question you have on it?

Ron, is that picture your clutch right now? If so it's correctly installed. I can't imagine the clutch mounted backwards and the belt alignment being anywhere near correct.

Re: RZR 570 Secondary question

Got it.

Thanks for the replies. My main question was about the weirdness of the secondary - how it comes apart without having to release spring tension, and how it appears to be on backwards from the parts diagram I found. The parts diagram shows the bolt going in the spring side. Mine has the spring side against the gearbox, and the bolt goes in from the fixed sheave with the helix. I was mainly thinking it was actually broken somewhere because of the way the two halves come apart without needing a tension fixture/tool.

I'm also trying to tune this thing for the higher altitudes I live/ride at. I cannot go below 4700 feet where I live. It's high desert, and that's my base altitude pretty much anywhere I ride locally. Most of my riding takes place between 5000-8000 feet. It may just be me, and my seat-of-my-pants meter, but with the new clutch the RZR just feels sluggish. All the dealer did was install high altitude weights when I bought it. No other changes. I have since changed from the stock 25x8/25x11 tires to 26x9 tires all around. I'm thinking the increase in size gets cancelled by running narrower tires in the rear. So now I'm fiddling with clutch weights and potentially clutch springs. The biggest problem I have is getting the RPM up high, quickly. It takes a very long time to reach 50 MPH, and if I let off the gas and hit it again, the RPMs stay low. I'm thinking I need better backshift, which means I would need a stiffer secondary spring. Maybe the missing washer is the problem there...

We do offer an adjustable dalton clutch kit for this model.

The Dalton kit from Hunterworks is easy to install and adjust and makes a noticeable difference.

I already have close to $500 into the new primary I just bought. Maybe when I rebuild the clutch I took off it...

IT is not a rebuild kit it is a performance kit that will be right on RPM

Yes, I understand what the performance kit is for. I was simply stating that I have basically run out of money because I bought a new OEM clutch, and new weights to go with it. The performance kits are quite pricey, and I'll have to wait a while before I can go that route. I now have a 'spare' clutch that is in perfect condition (minus the consumables like rollers and bearings). When I get to rebuilding THAT clutch, I'll spend the coin on the performance kit, as I have to buy new weights and spring for it anyway.

I'm not discounting the helpful info I have received thus far. I'm just 'out of budget' now. I'm sure there are many here who can understand that. I'd like to have it all... but 'all' costs more money than I have at this point, and I *do* have a brand new clutch on it now, so at least I'm good for another 3800 miles or so.

Re: RZR 570 Secondary question

Thanks! I'm at high altitude, so I have the 48 gram weights in it. I have been looking at secondary springs. I printed off a ton of info last week, including the EPI, SLP, and Dalton springs.

Yikes. That black/white is a 160/205! Hole-shots would be fantastic with that... probably snap your neck in the process. lol

I was looking at the spring that comes in the Dalton kit - DPSS-GY/O. The Dalton is a 90/175 spring. That's a lot closer to the stock spring, and would engage smooth at a low RPM, but give slightly better backshift, which is what I'm looking for. I'm so close now. Good pickup, and I'm hitting the speed limiter at about 7250 RPM. That gives me a couple hundred RPM to fiddle with... Ideal situation would be to hit the speed limiter and rev limiter at the same time.

Anyway, for $30-ish bucks, I'm going to give the DPSS-GY/O a try and see where it lands me.

Anybody on the forum a dealer for Dalton? I'd rather support a 'local' if I can. Otherwise, I will have to use Dalton's online sales outlet (Drivepower).
