Re: Racing Oil

XP6 is a full synthetic 15-50
I do not and never have changed my oil after every race like some do. I prefer 15-50 for less engine wear and to maintain viscosity with high rpm\heat use.

XP7 is a Semi synthetic 10-40
It will not withstand as much heat before breaking down and loosing viscosity compared to 15-50. Their are two reasons I suspect Holz uses XP7. 1) they change oil & filter after every race negating the need for full synthetic. 2) they are trying to achieve max HP which is obtainable with a thinner oil. NASCAR engines typically run 0-20. Holz is using a oil cooler as well to keep oil temp, breakdown & thinning in check. One other thing to note, if running the stock hydraulic cam chain tensioner I wouldn't use 10-40 as the tensioner operates off of oil pressure. Hot thin oil can cause chain to jump due to inadequate pressure. Holz uses a solid mechanical chain tensioner that doesn't rely on oil pressure.

If you are willing to change oil\filter every race, have a oil cooler, mechanical tensioner & DLC coated valve buckets and are wanting the absolute most power possible from your current package then use a 10-40 or equivalent. If you want to stay conservative & have the belief that an extra 1hp or so will not be the difference of Podium or not then by all means stay safe and use a 15-50 or equivalent.
