Re: Home made lighted LED whips.

Yes, this is an old post I am commenting on, but I have to redo mine since the circuit in one whip was broke in the roll over.

Gregg, will the SP 103 control WS 2812 or 2812b RGB LED's? I was looking to change to 2812 this time since the whole strip will not go out if a single circuit was broken. Or should I just get a controller for WS 2812

I've never tried the WS 2812 strips, just don't know for sure.
However the WS2811 and 2812 are both 3 wire strips.
Might work.

Well I will try it. I like the fact if one circuit is broke, only that single LED is out and the rest beyond it still work. This time I will also seal the ends of heat shrink with clear silicone as after washing mine with pressure washer or heavy rains there was moisture inside of the heat shrink, plus I had 1" heat shrink left over for my last whips and I should have used 3/4" since i was not using the waterproof strips any more. The previous set lasted 2 years and took a beating in the woods. The roll over on top of the flats down about 200' before the treeline did break one of the circuits about mid way. Amazing enough, the whips were still going when the RZR came to a stop on it's side. My springs on mine made them last so long.

Re: Home made lighted LED whips.

As a follow up, the SP 103 controller will not operate the WS 2812 LED's. I will have to get a compatible controller.

Re: Home made lighted LED whips.

Just an fyi I finally figured out why the ws2812 LEDs have an issue, they require 5v and will not operate on 12v. Therefore, I will have to reduce the voltage before it goes into the controller.

Re: Home made lighted LED whips.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what LED strips Venom used on their 5v whips? I've got a pair of them, and 1 is having some issues. I'd like to just fix the one instead of having to buy a complete new set.

BUT, if I do have to replace them, I'm going to try to find some that do the chasing, and all the fancy stuff, along with the brake lights. Not sure who has what anymore.
