Sand car PLUS a RZR or.........

I "think" this may be a little different then the normal RZR Vs sand car thread.

PERSONALLY, I think the RZR is the undisputed Jack of all trades. I love the fact I can leave my back yard and go through major rockage/desert/mountain trails etc. Add to that the fact it's halfway decent at the dunes and what more can you ask for???

Well, a deal came across my lap where I can pick up a MONSTER Hayabusa powered sand car for very close (maybe a tad cheaper) than another new RZR S.

Even though I acknowledge they're vastly superior in their chosen environment, I've never cared for dedicated sand cars because of their limited versatility. However, having both vehicles appeals to me greatly.

One drawback is when we're not at the dunes (the vast majority of the time) our toys are limited to the RZR and a Raptor for when my son and his girl join the wife and I. (or when friends and family come to visit)

So the question comes down to this:

Two RZR S LE's or.........

One RZR S LE and one Busa powered sand car.

If it means anything, last time I asked for help making a decision on this board; I went with the overwhelming majority and am happier than can be.

In other words, your opinions mean a lot. Thanks!!

I live in the desert "Havasu", but once you get a taste of the dunes (with horse power) rock running is ok, but only because its covenant and close.

The Busa car your looking at is that the blue one on Glamisdunes.com? Hayabusa Sandrail For Sale - GlamisDunes.com If it is I would say your going to get more car for your money with another RZR S - But if your looking at a Turbo Busa Car like Tom Pro Design Type 2 - GlamisDunes.com I would say hands down the Busa car would be the way to go.

If you want the least expensive route buy another RZR S - Because, your going to end up dune riding with both car and the RZR won't have the power of the Busa, you will be looking for ways to make your S go faster (turbo would be the natural order 5k or better) Then when the Busa car still drives by :scared2: your thinking man I should have gone Apex or Weber (10k to 17k) :rofl3:

My best advise, don't buy something because the majority thinks it's best (Heck, look whats in the white house) buy your next toy because its what your family wants, nobody else really matters...

Good Luck Were All Counting On YOU!!!

Yes, it's the blue one.

Just got done driving it with street tires......the thing certainly has some cajones even NA!!!

I'm fairly certain I can offer him what the cost of a new "S" will be.

I like the idea of having sumpin' different in the camp.....

LOL. whitehouse. Good one John!

I think it is a tough decision. For me a high hp RZR is the best choice. I like the smaller size for the sand trails in Oregon. But wanted more hp for big dunes. For Glamis, a bigger rail might be fun to have... But like you said, more limited on where to use it.

Funds certainly play a big part in this for sure.......have friends that have the high dollar Tatums/Trick etc....they spend more money on maintenance repair per trip then what my entire budget for the year would be.

I thought the mini-rail with Busa power (even though I'm a Kawasaki guy...LOL) might be a good compromise/change of pace.

I'm leaning towards the sand rail. Though I'd want one with a jeffco rearend, not the sprocket rearend without reverse. I'm seriously considering selling my turbo'd rzr this spring and going with a car from sandfever.A rzr with a turbo is fun and goes ok, but it lacks the wheelbase and suspension found on the sand cars. I've got friends with older vw cars, and I still can't follow them through the big stuff. Their cars simply take a different line then I can with the short wheelbase of the rzr. Even after dumping a ton of money into your rzr, you're still not going to have the performance of a dedicated sandcar. Plus it's so much more fun actually shifting gears. Course its easy for me to say this. I've got two rzr's a turbo'd rzr s and a rzr4. So even if I sell the rzr s, I can still take the family along on trail rides. The one downfall with these sandcars, is the maintenance. Everyone I know that has one is working on it. Chains wear out, parts break etc. I think the cars require more up keep then a stock rzr does.

I've been watching ksl.com for a while and have seen several short sand cars posted on there ranging in year and price. 16,000 would pick you up a very nice car. Here's a nice looking new one. Only problem is it's sprocket driven . ksl.com - Classifieds for Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming Here's another ksl.com - Classifieds for Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming

Here's the ones I've been considering. Sand Fever Sand Cars for the price you're getting a lot of car including the jeffco rearend, which includes reverse.

Good luck

i have driven and broke a busa rail i like the dependability of the rzr s , but my buddy has the x-18 and it is awesome for the sand but thats it really. busa rails are fun but they break liek anything else.

The reliability factor is at the top of my list!!!!!

RZR's due seem to be bulletproof!!

HOWEVER....once you get a RZR to run with a mini-rail at the dunes; I'd imagine a lot of that reliability advantage gets quashed.

i've had two rails, a tatum and an AG sandcar, my buddy has a short sand car. he likes his turbo busa, but really wants a full size car. it is cool and pretty fast, ok suspension, but i was faster with both my n/a 3.5 honda 4 seat tatum, and way faster with my 2.5 subaru turbo ag 5 seater. tons more suspension too! alot has to do with the weight, the little cars only weigh 900-1000 lbs, and they simply react different in the rough stuff. a tompro is a little different, they are badass!

You've got the RZR take the Busa and get some desert tires for it too.
You can then use it anywhere and when you need to do some technical stuff leave it on the trailer and use the RZR.
