Thoughts on the Paiute trail

Just got back from a few days on the paiute trail. The colors were amazing.
The dust was bad, really bad. The organized color ride was a waste of money. What the maps call trails around Maryvale are really roads, most can be drive in a pick-up. There are only a couple of "trails" and they are 50" only. Liz and Charlies cambground is great. Better trails can be found north in the Arapeen trail system in the mountains above Manti and Mt Pleasant (google Arapeen trials-they will send you a free map). Moab trails are better, more services in Moab, and they are not as dusty. YMMV.

Re: Thoughts on the Paiute trail

There are a lot of good trails on the Paiute If you spend the time to plan your rides but there are a lot that a regular old car can use. As for 50" trails get the forest service maps and you will find more of them that are not on the Paiute maps.I also think any of the organized rides are going to be on the easy trails so everyone can ride.

We have been to Arapeen Trail System it is a great place to ride and the trails don't seem to be as beat down as the Paiute trails and there are several trails a pickup truck could drive on. Don't go any time around hunting season or you won't get a good camping spot. We broke 2 cars so we didn't get to ride as much.

Re: Thoughts on the Paiute trail

Long story short. I hauled my 50" RZR out there but I got sick and couldn't ride. Back home I went. They did the trail that included 50" gates. Got to one 50" trail and a stock 1000 sportsman had to squeeze the posts to get through the gate. Said my RZR might not of made it. Mine is exactly 50" the sportsman is about 48" according to the specs. I would take the 50" map with a grain of salt as I'm told you can get into deep crap if you don't measure up even if the gates aren't 50" as posted.

Re: Thoughts on the Paiute trail

I have ridden quite a bit of the Paiute trail, including the Arapeen, Gooseberry and areas around Marysvale. I love the 50 inch trails. I have a rzr and have not found a gate that was less than 50 inches. Last summer we measured quite of few gates we did not find anything under 50 1/2 inches. If you are stock width you should have no problems.

Re: Thoughts on the Paiute trail

Made our first trip to the paiute trails last year. Was one of my favorite areas and there are plenty of trails for the over 50" group. Yes many are forest service roads, but the area is amazing. Stayed at the south 40 rv park and the folks there were great. I'd like to find a dry camping/boon docking camping spot personally, just don't like crowds. I can't wait to go back and ride again. I am also looking forward to trying the arapeen trails.
