Sunrise trail in Downeast Maine

Whoís ridden it this year? Is it really 86 miles of golf cart path with nice scenery like it appears, or does it connect to more technical trails?

Re: Sunrise trail in Downeast Maine

Iím looking for feedback on this trail as well. From my understanding this is more of a corridor that connects a lot of club trails. Anyone have recommendations on where to stay?

Re: Sunrise trail in Downeast Maine

The Sunrise Trail is a multi use State trail. You will come across walkers, bikes and even horses. The trail is a old railroad bed. In the winter it is used for snowmobiling. During the dry times it is very dusty. It starts in Ellsworth and meanders all the way NE up the coastal route. It will take you through towns and villages all the way. Your also go through some very remote areas. Itís best ridden in the fall during foliage time of year. There are trails off the sunrise if you choose to explore. But if your looking for anything other than groomed flat runs this isnít for you. You will find allot of road crossings and the speed is 15 mph. Your also have sections that you can take your machine to its limit. Remember your in the north woods and anything can step out in front of you. Its doable in a long day but you will not have time to take in the sights.
