Most landowners...ok, only CMP and AFM are restricting to 60. The Task Force covers the whole state. Perhaps if a max of 65 is set these two landowners will come around. Would be nice to not be stuck buying budget machines only.

We are planning on driving over to check the area out and buying a map. Looking at places to eat and stay will also be on the list to check out

Re: Maine UTV Riders, 60" max being enforced

Just got back from a weekend riding the Roxbury area. Beautiful area with some great trails, but a lot have been lost due to logging and landowner issues. Next trip will be to northern NH.

From what I've seen lately the battle to get over 60" in some areas of Maine is going to be dificult. We have a lot of people in the ATV/SxS community here who don't even support it, let alone convincing the landowners. "You should just drive a jeep" etc. comments.

Thats fine, and I get it. There were no restrictions where I was riding this past weekend, but I know many areas do have them.

Northern NH has a 65 restriction. Ive been told by several groups/people that the riding is better there anyway. Im currently the only one in the group over 60, but I feel that may change. One guy is looking to upgrade from an 800XC to either a General or an XP RZR, and another is seeing the difference in capabilities between my machine and his 1000S.

Maine is just one of the places we ride. Dont get me wrong, its awesome there, but there are no restrictions that apply to us in NH, WV, PA, etc.

Re: Maine UTV Riders, 60" max being enforced

As a business owner, I argue regularly for bumping to to 65" and make it universal to the whole state. The people here don't get that we are competing for people like you to come to the area. If you get hassled too much, or it's too difficult to figure out where you can and can't go, people just won't and we lose out as a state overall. Unfortunately the land owners don't really have a lot of stake in the whole thing...as far as I can tell they would be better off if no one came, even if it was worse for the state. Maybe you could make a really convoluted argument about land values but most of the large landowners are just sitting on the land waiting for trees to grow.

This weekend I made a loop from Lee to Mattwamkeag and back, and coming into Lee from the west side there is a 62" bridge. This isn't in a 60" area...kind of a downer if you go all the way around a loop and find this in your way. Personally I would just ride down the road into town at that point but I'm guessing it would stress a lot of people out if their machine won't fit. One guy in our group has a Pioneer 1000-5 and it did fit but it was tight.

We have rented a place in Eustis for that weekend. We are planning on doing loops because we don't know our way around and on the map we bought it doesn't say about how far loops are or who has gas. I'm sure the trails will be what we are looking for

Re: Maine UTV Riders, 60" max being enforced

So looks like we might end up back in Maine in August. Looking at the Newport/Dover Foxcroft area. Anyone know about width restrictions there? Man, I wish someone would just post this shit up on a website somewhere...

Re: Maine UTV Riders, 60" max being enforced

So as an update to this thread, I just got back from a 3-day, 400 mile ride up in the Greenville/Forks/Jackman area. We had my XP1K, a S1K, a Sportsman 850, and four dirt bikes. Basically rode from Greenville at the southern tip of Moosehead Lake up through Rockwood and Jackman, rode to the Canadian border, back down to the West Forks, and back over to Greenville. And pretty much everywhere in between. Had no problem fitting my XP anywhere, including the gates to get to the Canadian border in northern Jackman. I saw one random sign in a tree in the middle of nowhere that said No ATV Over 60. The vast majority of machines we saw on the trails were UTVs over 60. Also, no one cared at all about the dirt bikes. Those guys only rode with us about 50% of the time. Just wanted to post this info up because I wasnt able to get much info at all pre-trip and was starting to second-guess buying my 64 machine. Now I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. Had a great trip and well be going up there again at some point, but the next trip in November will be Hatfield McCoy!

We rode the Eustis/Rangeley area and had a great time. The Quill overlook is AWESOME. We also see dirt bikes riding even though it was posted. Width wise didn't see anyone having problems, but, we did ride on some boards on one trail that the wide ones might of had some problems on.
