Repealed, no longer in effect.

I think it was one year ago, we got some state reps on our side that understood the detrimental effects of the law and changed it.

So if I'm reading this correctly you are now allowed to ride on any road in Arkansas for any distance as long as it is not inside a city limit or on a interstate highway???

Yes. That is how I understand it.

We now have some politicians that understand the revenue they were losing by making Arkansas so unfriendly to UTV/ATV's and have decided to make Arkansas more UTV/ATV friendly and they are working to interconnect many of the trails in the area, which would allow for hundred mile loops or more. Days of riding instead of just the smaller grouping of trails we currently have that you have to trailer to each trail head.

A long ride currently is about 50 to 70 miles. Which isn't bad, that's good day. Beautiful trails. But they're working to connect Northwest Arkansas area trails to central Arkansas. This would, at least, connect Buckhorn (Devil's Den area), Mill Creek and Moccasin gap. Probably Hot Springs area also.

Exciting times here.

Now if we can just keep the litter bugs and vandals from screwing it up....ugh.

Re: Arkansas 3 mile rule?

This works out great for me.

We usually go for at least a week at a time to camp and ride and were pretty much stuck riding the whole week at the couple of places that had direct trail access as it was a pain to break down camp and load up the toy hauler just for a day ride a few miles away.

Now the state just needs to find a way to let people know their pushing this to bring in out of state visitors. If I hadn't seen this thread I would have had no idea and was going to start looking elsewhere for our vacation this coming year.

I am excited too...BUT, don't head this way just yet!!

All that I mentioned is future plans, they are working on the trails and making them better. Also, removed the 3 mile rule.

BUT, the full plan will not be in place by next year.

If the 3 mile rule reversal is sufficient, then great. Otherwise you might want to check back in a year or so.

Re: Arkansas 3 mile rule?

The three mile rule no longer exists.Back to what we had before.I f you can show a good reason to ride from trail to trail you are good as long as you are not on a FS road that is closed to OHVs.

Re: Arkansas 3 mile rule?

Robert, the wife grew up on Batson Mountain just down the road from Oark. Her best friend from childhood used to own that store and one of her other friends is the "Pie Lady" at the Oark store now. We will be going there plenty. Went to Spainhour Falls the first day and then over the mountain to Low Gap and around the second. My son's property borders Spadra Creek so they know the area well.

Re: Arkansas 3 mile rule?

That general area of white rock/mulberry mtn/oark has been a "hotbed" of ticket writing the past few years. Wifes family has land up there and the FS has ran nearly everyone off over the past decade. Outside of Mill creek and some small sections of trails around white rock its all closed. Why? I'm not sure. Its a shame.

The FS are being difficult to deal with on the trails that already exist. Its sometimes hard to tell what is a trail and what should be "closed" (not sure why things are closed, that's another story), use Avenza, get local trail maps, and you will be fine.

As far as riding on the road, well, ive never had an issue, however, act like a Jacka$$ and get treated like one

Re: Arkansas 3 mile rule?

Agreed on the Jacka$$ attitude. Be respectful, stay off marked property and closed trails and it should be fine. None of us so far have seen any lawmen where we have gone.

The closed trail is up for debate. We got a ticket up there. Long story, but i could have driven my full sized truck down this trail...

Oh well. Live and learn

The state needs to get on board with ohv tourism though!

Re: Arkansas 3 mile rule?

We spend 7 - 10 days camping at Mulberry Mountain every October. Would it be possible to ride to Mocassin Gap from Mulberry? If we can, would the ride take all day or would we be able to spend some time riding the trails?
