electrical noise after heat soak?

I have a 17 xp4 turbo and after a while riding (30+ minutes minimum) if I have my stereo going I get some really bad electrical noise coming through the system (fosgate stage 4) and my power commander PVCX will start to cycle on and off on the display screen?

If I shut the engine off my stereo sounds perfect, even after its hot. The whine is in sync with RPM when running (more rpm=more noise)

If I first start up my machine say after it sits overnight and cools completely off and run the stereo everything works 100% normal, its only after a good heat soak after riding a while is when I get the noise/feedback/issues.

Battery is new, connections seem good and clean, checked all my grounds and cleaned them up as well.

Was leaning towards maybe the regulator causing this issue? system is charging fine (14.4 votls +-)

just seeing if anyone else had a similar issue.

The noise symptoms you describe indicate a ground loop. However the correlation with heat and the tuner flashing off makes it tough to diagnose. This makes it seem like the power or ground wire in the harness supplying the tuner is the same one supplying the stereo. Has this always occurred since the stereo was installed or is this a recent development? Did you specifically check the ground connection at your stereo? Also, how did you "check" the ground connections? The best way to check is with a meter while the engine is running and look for voltage potential between ground points. If nothing is found, unfortunately pulling wires off the ground posts and ohming them out would be the next step. Because there are multiple wires on the same post in some places, you could think everything is fine but really have a break in a wire. There are so many variables here; the more background you can provide the better we can help.

Re: electrical noise after heat soak?

It started after a while, better part of a year or so. For the first year everything worked as perfect as can be. And like I tried to describe in my original post everything still does until after about a solid 30 minutes of hard riding and everything gets a good heat soak then thats when the electrical noise shows up. My stereo (amps) are wired straight to the battery, head unit is wired up to the buss bar for constant 12v. My PVCX gets everything it needs from the data/diagnostic plug under the hood.

I have only pulled the ground wire ends off and made sure they were spotless and clean, havent ohmed them out from end to end to make sure that they didnt have any breaks or bad spots in them. Since this seems to be a heat related issue I was wondering if it was/possible for it to be a regulator issue?

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, been crazy swamped. Yes, in theory, it could be the regulator flaking out, which would explain the relation to other devices. To be honest, I am not sure how you would even test it though, aside from buying a new one and swapping it out.

Re: electrical noise after heat soak?

That's what I was thinking, a bad diode in the regulator. I'm guessing they are in the regulator anyway.
