SSV Works Help

Here is the problem. Cruising along listening to the stereo. Turn the RZR off, stereo is still on and sounds great. Go to start the RZR back up and it reboots the system which pauses the tunes. Usually it only requires pushing the play button and the music comes back. Sometimes it loses the connection to sub and the whole system has to be rebooted to work. Anyone else have this issue? How have you fixed it?

Re: SSV Works Help

Do you have a volt meter in the machine? I would be curious to see the battery voltage when the machine is running a well as when you start the machine.

Re: SSV Works Help

The 10.42 volts is a definite concern. The battery voltage should not be dropping that low. Generally speaking this means the battery is down on capacity. Do you have any other accessories turned on when starting the machine?

Re: SSV Works Help

No accessories are on during start up. Is there a specific voltage range for this unit? Any ideas?

Re: SSV Works Help

Anyone else have this issue? The machine was less than a year old when I installed the stereo and it has done it since it was first installed. I know that the battery could have been bad then but that is unlikely here 1.5 years later and it still starts the machine fine. I would be happy to buy a new battery but I would rather confirm that it doesn't do this on other machines before throwing parts at it. I have heard two voltages from SSV - at least 12 volts from James and at least 10 volts from Greg.

If it is the battery, what is the recommendation for a new battery? Oem? Optima? No-Name it doesn't really matter?

I appreciate your responses.

I have the SSV Stage 3 on my XP1k. Works great but I have a dual battery setup with a smart isolator.

So when starting your RZR it doesn't reboot the stereo? If so, can you share some details on your setup please?

I don't have that problem. I have always used to dual battery set-up with the smart isolator. I just like the peace of mind in knowing that if stop for too long and the system drains the battery, the isolator will prevent me not being able to start the RZR. Check out Surepower for the details. The auxiliary battery is an odyssey.

I would do a good check on all major power connections and make sure they are good and tight. It sounds like it could be a poor connection that has a high resistance.

Re-check your grounds. Sometimes corrosion will cause the ground connections to be poor.

Check your rocker switch (I assume you are using a rocker switch for power), that could also be a place to look. See if you can find a way to make it reboot. Mechanical switches can sometimes be intermittent.

I know you have probably already thought about all these things, but I just think somewhere in the power circuit you have a flaky contact.

Good luck. I know it can be very frustrating.

Re: SSV Works Help

I hate when people don't post after they solve problems so here goes. I purchased a new battery and during the install I super cleaned all of the connections. The few times I have tested it the system stays on while starting... success! Thanks for the help.

Re: SSV Works Help

Interesting... What battery did you put in? My SSV overhead does the exact same thing that you described. What's odd is that did it since I installed it in my brand new 2014 XP1K and it still does it after I moved it to my new 2017 XTP... I bought the SSV new shortly after I bought the XP1k and its always rebooted. It's a pain to since I have to reconnect the Bluetooth every time I start the machine.

Re: SSV Works Help

I bought the new battery from Q'Reily Auto. I also cleaned all of the connections really well - which one fixed it, I don't know. Mine also suffered this problem since new. I hope it stays fixed.

Re: SSV Works Help

Update - claimed success to early. Riding today and its back at rebooting when starting. It was after racing around for 20-30 minutes so the battery should have been fully charged. Hmmm??? Has anyone solved this? Capacitor?

Re: SSV Works Help

As long as your voltage is stable, a capacitor should not be necessary.

Re: SSV Works Help

From what I have read it is normal for a battery to drop to 10 volts while starting. I suspect that the SSV system cannot handle that drop and causes it to lose the bluetooth connection and sometimes the connection to the subwoofer. The question is would a capacitor fix this issue? How would one go about sizing and installing such a device?
