Question RZR S or Ranger xp?

Sold my buggy. So going back to a sxs. I was offered my rzr s back. 2011 model. He only put 24 miles on it in 1them year. It is flawless with 300 miles. Worth 10,500? He paid me 11,300 a year ago. The delima is i need something to do mild yard work and spray my fence lines and roads on my property. Would i b better off buying a new ranger and sacrificing some offroad capabilities for the use? Or fab a big basket on the rear for of the rzr to work off of that i can remove? Same $ for either unit. Opinions?

Re: RZR S or Ranger xp?

I dont think the rzr is going to be very friendly to your yard and im thinkin the ranger has some type of unlockable differential in the rear to save turf. Not 100% sure on that. For me it would come down to how much yard work i was going to be doing vs. how much trail riding i was going to be doing. if i thought i would be trail riding at least once a month or so I would own a rzr s

2012 RZR S- EMP aluminum skids, super ATV nerfs, B & M Custom roof,
Pyle 240watt 2 channel amp, Roll bar mounted cans for the tunes,
Pure Polaris Bumpers, Super ATV LED's
Pro Armor Doors, Holtz clutch kit

The ranger 800xp Is one heck of a machine. We have a 2010 and a 2012 Orange madness and most of the time when we go on group rides the rangers get out more than my S. they will impress you with where they can go. I know it impressed me. And the 1 wheel drive turf mode is nice for not tearin up the yard.

Re: RZR S or Ranger xp?

As scott said above, i assume you are talking about the utility style Ranger?

I struggled with this as well. The RZR is defintely more fun off road, faster, more stable, nimble, rides smoother, etc....But as far as work goes, the Ranger has the "turf mode" 2x4, has the larger bed, and hauls 3 people, as well as it's prolly a bit easier to get in and out of. You could prolly haul a spray rig with a RZR but the bed is kinda awkward for hauling big tanks. Just depends how much that matters to you. If you work 80% and have fun 20% you better get the Ranger. If its play 80% work 20% then the RZR hands down.

Good luck

Re: RZR S or Ranger xp?

I just sold my 2011 Ranger and bought a RZR 4 800 this spring. I just got done spraying with it and it worked fine. I would much rather spend the money on a little utility trailer than go back to a ranger.

Re: RZR S or Ranger xp?

It too had this same delima. After looking into what I was going to use it more for I bought the RZR S. I have used it on the turf and it does just fine so long as you have the area to make wide turns. I have very little turf issues because I have the room to make wide turns. X2 on the trailer. I hooked up a trailer to haul the bigger stuff. I am extremely pleased with its performance both on the trail and with the minimal yard use.
