Amount of wheel bearing play?

Hello, I have felt a pop when backing up somtimes and went to check my bearings. I jacked up the RZR and rocked the wheels top to bottom like you do a car. All seem to have play, with right front the most. What amount is reasonable? I have 500 miles on a 2012 50".

I had to do this on my 2003 HD this winter, had about the same amount of play Question is whats normal and how should one measure normal play?

Thanks!

Re: Amount of wheel bearing play?

Make sure you're not feeling the bushings or the tie-rod ends going bad before you assume it's the bearings. You can do a visual and watch for very slight movements at the bushings and TR ends.

Re: Amount of wheel bearing play?

Which bushing? There are tie rod ends and ball joints at the hub I see.

I still am not convinced I have an issue, maybe these are just more sloppy than what I have encountered in vehicles?

Re: Amount of wheel bearing play?

They all seem to have the same amount. You can feel it but not detect with your eye. That is what leads me to think it may be normal. I'll torque those castle nuts that's a good call.

Re: Amount of wheel bearing play?

It's probably the beginnings of bushing wear you're feeling. I'm talking about the bushings in the a-arms. There's a whole bunch of them in the upper and lower units. Look there for a tiny bit of visible play.

Re: Amount of wheel bearing play?

I'm not sure they are used on all models, but I know there are some that use cupped washers. Have you checked that the washers are in the correct order and are the right type?

Re: Amount of wheel bearing play?

Checked things over yesterday. The castle nuts werent 80lbs they were lighter. I torqued to 80+ ish ( just to get cotters back in). One was pretty loose maybe 50lbs. The front right wheel - it was the bushing moving. I packed with grease again and it stopped moving. I dont know where the hell the grease is going as it was just greased a bit ago. BTW I use that green grease.

Things seem pretty tight now. Thanks.
