Canada Mysterious Rev Limiter.

So i have a 2012 50" and at 6450rpm the limiter kicks in and that's the way it's been since new.So a few weeks ago i made a rear window from 1/8" Lexan to stop the dust swirl and it worked very well. But since i put the window in the limiter doesn't cut in till 6550 rpm, what ya'll think about that?????

Re: Mysterious Rev Limiter.

I'm wondering if the air was being pulled away from the air intake and the window has stabilized the air,it just doesn't make any sense to me but the machine even seems to have better acceleration now.

Has your top speed remained constant or has it increased as well?

Re: Mysterious Rev Limiter.

the tachs are really slow, im guessing the window is creating more resistance and causing the clutches to work a little harder, if that's the case, you could add a little more weight to your primary arms and it will run a little harder

Marty is right.
the stock tachometer can be off.
adding or subtracting wind resistance won't change where the soft and hard limiter are set.
I think the soft limiter pulls timing and the hard limiter pulls fuel.

either way being on the rev limter is bad for the engine. so back off the throttle or adjust your clutch.

Re: Mysterious Rev Limiter.

I always back off the throttle when it hit's the limiter,i hate the sound of it.What's my best option to keep it off the limiter besides backing off the throttle?

Re: Mysterious Rev Limiter.

Will increasing the limiter with a dynatek cdi box DFS9-4 be risky. What is the max you would run a stock 800??

Re: Mysterious Rev Limiter.

I would go with what the others suggested. Get yourself a clutch kit and you'll be better off. Simple to do and inexpensive.

Speculation, granted, but I think you may actually be on to something. With a rear windshield and no front, or a half front windshield, one would expect to experience a slight positive pressure in the cockpit area while running at higher speeds. Given that it has been clearly and irrefutably established that the stock intake plenum opening (between the seats) on the 800's is undersized in relation to the combined cross-section and optimal flow-rates of the CVT-intake tube and the engine-intake tube, and that the stock 800, as delivered is set-up, at the factory, to run lean of optimal throughout the power-band, anything that raises the pressure at the intake opening, even slightly, can be expected to have a noticeable and positive effect on the achievable rpm and power output. A simple mercury manometer, or a more sophisticated Helix Magnitometer would, if installed in the intake tract, anywhere down-stream of the plenum opening, provide some definitive answers. This may be how Holtz Racing discovered the stock intake systems' deficiency/s, or they may have flow-benched the whole system, I don't know. Anyway, my two-bits...........

Cheers

Re: Mysterious Rev Limiter.

All i know is it's different with the window in a positive way and yes i have a half windshield on front.I'm also thinking about putting a louver between the seats with a pre filter.
