CROWN KING, AZ - UPDATE FROM YCSO: Crown King evacuations are complete for Sunday night, residents who choose to remain MUST remain on their property. All businesses are closed, and roadblocks remain as only emergency personnel are allowed to enter the town.

Authorities say one of four Arizona wildfires has prompted a call for mandatory evacuations in the historic mining community of Crown King.

Firefighters are battling the Gladiator Fire which started Sunday morning four miles north of Crown King , Arizona.

WATCH LIVE AIR15 VIDEO OVER THE FIRE

State Forest Division spokesman said the fire, which started on private land, has burned about 600 acres in the Bradshaw Mountains which are four miles north of Crown King.

Three structures, all residences, have been destroyed so far.

Crown King is 28 miles west of Interstate 17 on Senator Highway in the Bradshaw Mountains.

According to Yavapai County Sheriff Scott Mashcer, sheriff’s office deputies were called to the Crown King community around 11 a.m. Sunday morning.

Members of the Crown King Fire Department arrived on Gladiator Mine Road to find two fully engulfed structures and the fire spreading to a nearby forest.

Three fire crews from the Arizona State Office of Forestry and US Forest Service have been called in to assist.

Air tanker strikes have occurred over the target area which is difficult to access by land crews.

Arizona land managers have been warning residents that vegetation is dry and the risk of fire is considered to be very high in some areas.

The designated evacuation center is Mayer High School which is located at 17300 E Mule Deer Drive in Mayer. Red Cross personnel will be on hand to assist those arriving from Crown King.

Mayer is not on the list of threatened communities at this time.

Mascher said the fire has taken over a portion of the Crown King Road making the road inaccessible.

Deputies will be directing residents by alternative outlets leading directly to the Mayer area on Highway 69.

YCSO is asking people to stay off outlet roads coming from Crown King. Portions of these roads are passable by only one vehicle and in very rough terrain. It is critical the roads remain open and accessible to evacuees.

Mascher said he has no information on the fire’s cause at this time.

If you are evacuated, check what you should take on the Arizona Emergency Information Network website.

Stay with ABC15 and ABC15.com for the latest information.

Re: Crown King Fire

Just talked to my buddy Steve that owns the Bear Creek Cabins in CK. His wife and daughter left but he wont leave. Says they watched the flames from their deck yesterday but all he can see now is smoke. I asked if he could get out if he needed to. Said he could. He knows every trail and road there is so I am sure he will be OK. He is just stubborn as he put his whole life in their dream home and business.

Re: Crown King Fire

Another home went up since the initial report, so the count is 4 structures as of about 5 am Arizona time. Hope they can get it under control soon. That area was hit by a large fire about 2 or 3 years ago.

Re: Crown King Fire

On the news this morning, still 0% contained, no estimate on when they expect to get it even slightly contained. Another structure has been burned so now up to 5. And to make matters worse another fire has been identified here in AZ. We now have 5 active wild fires in the state, and this is just the start of the wild fire season - Holy Crap.

Re: Crown King Fire

I'm waiting for the phone to ring. I spent most of last June flying fires in AZ and NM. Just a matter of time, I'm sure.

Of the horrors that I've seen and the things that I've done, I pray to never remember them. -Anonymous Grunt

Re: Crown King Fire

Some good news. Talked to Steve just now and he said it is going to miss town. They were told to evacuate but being on there own property I guess they cant make them. Him and his friend are sitting on the deck drinking beer so the moods not as somber.

Re: Crown King Fire

note: I posted this yesterday on the VJC, copying here too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Power went out around 430pm. I was going to stay until that happened, went ahead and emptied fridge freezer and grabbed the stuff that insurance might not cover but we would definitely miss if we lost.

This is is what it started as, around noon or so...

I knew the fire depth was on the way and it appeared to be winding down so I went back to sanding the deck... noticed the smoke was still filling the air so went for a look and Then it got bigger...

More coming....
