Anyone with idling problems?

I had idling problems for a year. I would clean the air filter, have service done to include all the TPS stuff, still, the problem would resurface. I finally printed out all the fix actions people have taken from this site and brought them to the dealership. After going through several of the fix actions, they finally found the one that worked, at least for my RZR. Having the Throttle Body cleaned during service solved my idiling issue. I haven't had one single issue with it since.

Re: Anyone with idling problems?

I just started having high idle problems out of my rzr s. It's a little over a month old and has been fine until about a week ago. It's not a constant problem but ends up happening before the ride is over. My rpm's usually stay around 1200-1250 and when it starts it'll be around 1500 up. I have to turn it off to put it in another gear then start her back up. Hoping I get time to get it to the shop this week so it can get fixed. (hopefully)

That's weird, just the opposite of my problem. My normal idle is around 1230 but would slowly drop to 700, 600, 500, then at around 450 it would start stalling. Having the throttle body cleaned here in AZ is probably a must with the dust conditions. Good luck, I hope they figure it out for you.

Did you have any luck getting the problem fixed? Mine does the same with no pattern to the issue.

Having same problem. Took to dealership they have not been able to get it to do the same thing when they run it. They are going to try again today to try and figure it out.

Try cleaning the T-BAP sensor. Be sure and use Mass Airflow sensor cleaner. Don't use anything else.

Re: Anyone with idling problems?

For the eratic idle I'd bet the T-BAP sensor is the problem.

For the falling idle...that's what mine did when the motor got "dusted"...time to inspect the throttle body and intake ports for a coating of dust/gasoline "mud".

If you see that...your top end is toast.

If not, then time for a leakdown test and compression test.

I haven't had time to get it to the shop. The doors finally came in and we installed them and left the battery disconnected over night and I've not had time to ride it to see if it's still going on. It was weird with mine because it didn't start acting crazy til after we installed an overhead stereo. I'm glad I'm not the only one with the problem because usually I am.

Re: Anyone with idling problems?

I doubtthe two are connected, but it would be worth it to see what your system voltage does when you turn the stereo on. It may pull the voltage down to where it affects the ECU.

Try it. Turn the stereo on while you're riding and when the idle starts going crazy, turn off the stereo and see if it improves. You do have a throttle position sensor that has a pre-set voltage. If system voltage drops enough????

I have a Dakota Digital voltmeter on my machine. Very accurate. I run 13.4 to 13.5 volts, when the fan comes on it drops to 12.8 to 12.7. So if your stereo is a big draw...that's probably enough to cause problems.

Re: Anyone with idling problems?

Dealer found problem on mine. He said one of the connectors on a wiring harness was not snapped in completely. Pushed connector together and good to go. I dont know which connector it was. Happy to get it back so quick.

Re: Anyone with idling problems?

Rancher N,

Whew...that must have been a relief.

Check the wiring harness in the service manual, and then take it and have the tech point out which was not snapped in. Then you can add checking it to your routine maintenance list.

Re: Anyone with idling problems?

I've had the irratic high idle myself on my 2011 S model. I just disconnect the battery for a minute then connect it back and it clears itself. Not sure what the cause is yet.

Re: Anyone with idling problems?

RCjohn,

Sounds to me like your system voltage is dragging the battery down. When you remove the battery cable the battery will often recover some voltage.

I'd suggest installing a volt meter, either permanent or temporary and check your system voltage when out doing what you do when the idle goes weird.

My RZR runs 13.4 to 13.5 volts when riding. When the fan kicks on the voltage drops to 12.7 to 12.8 and then recovers when the fan shuts off.

Just something to check.

I've converted to a larger Optima battery and it has done it with both batteries. I was told that it would reset the computer. Not sure if that's what it did but it worked. It's not a frequent problem so I'm not sure what it actually is. Probably a loose connector similar to what the other guy had.

Re: Anyone with idling problems?

Hmmm...

Have you checked all the plug in connectors?

Have you made sure your ground connections are both clean and tight?

That's the kind of stuff I've seen on everything from trucks to heavy equipment
