Don't get a Polaris winch!

Stick with warn. Less than a year old and it...... left me hanging. Got halfway on the truck and it just quit. Motor spins but won't go in or out.

Eff it I strapped it up and drive it home.

how it's supposed to load

Re: Don't get a Polaris winch!

Yep, they're made in China garbage. My dealer tells everyone to spend the extra $ for a real one.

18 RS1-many mods to come
16 HL Sportsman 1000-way too much done
16 RZR 570-snorkelled & some accessories
18 Anniversary Edition Sidewinder Turbo
16 3/4 Ton Silverado to haul them all

Re: Don't get a Polaris winch!

I put a pro mark 3500 on my rzr. This is after stripping the plastic gear in a Warn 3000 twice myself and a friend stripping his idk how many times. I've been very impressed with my pro mark so far. Good price on them too.
But i agree the factory winche should be replaced with something reliable.

Re: Don't get a Polaris winch!

I feel your pain, my spool split and the added friction cooked the motor. Plus it is not sealed, the windings and magnets gears were full of mud. The glue holding the magnets on the housing actually let go as well causing it to almost catch fire. JUNK JUNK JUNK!!!! Im running an XT4.0 now and very happy with it.

Because it high centers chipper, needs a little nudge.

Did the xt4.0 bolt right up in the stock location or need a new mounting kit?

Re: Don't get a Polaris winch!

looking into getting a winch for wife's RZR, was leaning on the PoPo winch, guess wont be going that route now. So thought would get the Warn winch, then you post about striping plastic gear. never would have thought it has plastic gear in it. is that just the 3.0 and smaller that have plastic gears? or does the 4.0 warn have plastic gears too? Do they warranty the warns good?

I can't swear by it, but i think they all have the plastic gear. The planetary gears are all metal, but the one on the shaft that runs through the spool is plastic. I never even thought about warranty, just ordered the parts and rebuilt it myself. I'm a firm believer in the pro marks now. I've seen a 3500 do some serious and i mean serious work.

Re: Don't get a Polaris winch!

For the money and features I'll go warn or Viper. I've never really even considered the Polaris winch.

Re: Don't get a Polaris winch!

Interesting to know they are still junk, knew that was the case a while ago. Im pretty happy with my viper, its not as fast as my warn but for the little winching the rzr does its fine.

X2, I bought the Pro Mark 4500 (Either 4000 or 4500) and itís performed flawlessly so far. I recently had a problem with it not winding in with the switch (turns out the switch on my dash was dirty) but a month after I called tech support, their customer service called me up just to check up on me to make sure everything was working okay.

Great product, great customer service...

Mark
