Installed my PA Doors yesterday!!

Well I finally got time to get my PA doors on yesterday. I love them, took a little longer than expected so I didn't get my Front & Rear grill guards installed, so I guess they are next.

Instructions and eveything about these doors were excellant, easy install, good directions, love the slam latches, just really impressed with the fit and quality. Thank you PA !!!

Re: Installed my PA Doors yesterday!!

Just ordered a set myself! Hope the install goes as well for me...I have wanted doors forever and finally bit the bullet to order some. I hope they are worth their weight in gold as it seems everyone talks about having doors.

Re: Installed my PA Doors yesterday!!

I ordered from Polaris RZR Accessories, Polaris RZR XP Parts, Polaris RZR S Accessories l Side by Side Parts Headquarters. $595 shipped for black powder coat with cut outs! Also comes with a Pro Armor tee shirt free! You instantly get $5.00 for signing up for their news letter and then once you order $500.00 or more you get an additional $25.00 worth store credit which I used towards slam latches! Pretty pleased myself...now as long as they get here soon =D

Re: Installed my PA Doors yesterday!!

My PA doors came with the "Valet Option". I have the slam latches, and when I'd be driving along, the doors would fly open all by themselves! You never knew when or where, but at least once every 1/2 mile! It was like having a valet run along side of you and open your doors for you, lol. The suicide design is great at converting your RZR into a wing plow when it does this! It's a real treat having 5 point harness' and having to unbuckle to close the passenger's side! Nothing like making a fast turn to avoid scooping in a tree, and running off the trail...

After taking a good look, I discovered the latches are made from sheet metal, and when I would slam them shut, it would actually bend the latch a bit. Luckily the latches are made so weak, you just have to kick them with your boot a couple of times, and you're back in business - until the next time you slam them and bend them...

I added an extra bolt in mine after the first week's run, and it made a huge difference!

I'm going to make latch mounts out of stronger/thicker metal one of these days to completely resolve this design flaw. I was really disappointed with the regular latches that come on the base model. The doors are of great craftmanship, it looks like aircraft quality. BUT, it's like after they made the doors, they had Jethro go install them, and all he could find for a latch was the ones from the bathroom stall... If you want to break into a RZR with this type of latch, the secret combination is one up, one over, and one down... shhhhh, don't tell anyone. Ha ha ha.

I'm surprised they didn't use something like a square tube on the top, with a spring loaded telescoping piece inside that would have a horseshoe shaped piece on the end sorta like a cyclone fence latch that would completely capture the roll cage, and not be affected by frame flexing. Both styles of PA latches look like they'd pop open on the first roll of a roll over. Can you imagine how much higher of a flip you'll get if you have that extra couple of feet of door sticking 90 to the RZR? Just my 2...

If you want to add some adventure to your ride, get high centered going over a dune, and have to get out to push yourself off. Plan on doing a "Bo Duke", and climb out NASCAR style, since the frame will flex enough you won't get the doors open. You get the same result just jacking a rear wheel off the ground while it's sitting in the driveway... I just had my XP on 4 jackstands when I was putting my KINGs on, and the doors were stuck then too.

If you want to add a flip-up windshield, expect a little extra time to make your own mounts. I did mine and it worked out pretty good, just wasn't planning on doing a redesign that day.(I still need to cut the bolts off a bit more.) It seems like nothing is ever truly bolt on, lol.

BTW, I paid the extra $200 for the decals to match my ride. Those are actually a great fit, and no surprises. Just don't do it on a windy day, since you might only get one chance. No directions there, but spraying water on the door mixed with a couple drops of liquid soap, and putting them on like window film seemed to be the ticket. I have NO air bubbles in mine, and am glad I remember an old body shop guy telling me that trick years ago. I don't know why they don't give you that info with the stickers? I guess it's because since they "only" charge us $200 for them, they're already just giving them away???

I have the inner door bags, and those are a nice padding for my knee. They did a good design the way they made them removeable with 4 plastic click locks.

Oh, I forgot one last thing...

The curve on the door, and respectful vents are PERFECT for effectively locking your elbow into the door when you hit a stump hiding in the grass with your left front wheel, and the steering wheel spokes JAM your hand and elbow back, while the spokes attempt to amputate your thumb, since your arm can't move back farther! That was the only time that door was LOCKED SOLID!!! Remember to drive with your hands on the outside at all times! I put power steering on after that! (You don't get that warning in the kit either!)...

Haha....I don't think I quit laughing reading this entire script lol. I have read a ton of horror stories about these doors, but too many ppl have them to be super junk. They have very recently upgraded their slam latch design and even if you go on pro armors web page then you will be able to fill out a form and send your old junk latches in to get their new design. I was rlly torn between Pro Armor and Utv Inc. doors, but I like the look on the PA doors and I can interchange from sheet metal to nets in the hot hot summer...that's all reasoning for different companies. They can suit all of our needs and wants somehow!

Wow, I haven't heard about that! Thanks for the input. I like the doors, but their latching design sucks like a good girlfriend!

Does your "free" t-shirt say something like "I survived my Pro-Armor doors"?

Hey Rick, man I think Pro Armor would have told you about the new latches if you had taken ohhhh about 5 minutes to pick up the phone and in the time you took to type our your horror story you could have talked to Pro Armor and had it all fixed probably with the new slam latches in your hand. Why wouldn't you call and and get them to help you out Rick? I don't know who installed your doors and latches but it sure sounds like the install was not done even close to right.. Good luck on the new latches I think you will find they solve your problem. Have fun in your XP it looks sweet.

I proudly use and recommend products and services from these supporting vendors;
SpringBrakeThingy, Fullerton Sand Sports, Hunterworks, SDR Motorsports, SSV, Packard Performance, Factory UTV, UTV Inc, Wolfsnout

Tonight is the first I've heard of the "latch exchange program". My RZR was a dealer trade from a dealer in S California last July, and the doors were already on it. My local dealer was 8 hours away when I went on my maiden trip. Once I figured out adding the bolt would help, it's now tolerable. My local dealer started adding the bolt once I showed him my fix. The dealer where I went on my first trip said the latches "have issues", and was a known problem. It didn't sound like PA needed another phone call at the time. Besides, I was having a good laugh at my passengers trying to grab the door while wearing a wrist restraint!

I'm wondering if the frame stiffeners for the XP would help with the door jamming though?

I'm at my dealer right now, he thanks you as well - especially since he hasn't heard about it either!
