That's a good question and I don't have the answer. I assume you're asking because with that part now fortified, the next failure will be something more catastrophic and expensive. I don't think Polaris designed the plastic part to intentionally fail to protect other components though. It was more likely a cost consideration. The reason I think that is because the current models now have metal carriers. They had to respond to the high failure rate of that part by designing a better one.
Nice Video,so the 2012's have a metal carrier?

Re: Sprague Carrier Replacement - VIDEO

I better qualify the OEM metal carrier comment. I know the XPs have them but I'm not sure about the RZR or RZRS model. Someone should be able to confirm.

Re: Sprague Carrier Replacement - VIDEO

Thanks for the vid. I was wondering what it looked like in there. Looks pretty simple to do.

Re: Sprague Carrier Replacement - VIDEO

After reading about the plastic carrier, I am convinced Polaris put it in there to save them on Warrenty claims. Its a very weak, weak link. Its going to fail before anything else and its a cheap fix. Thats my take..

Nice vid! Next weak link is the outer CV joints and front hubs - These will need to be upgraded next.

Re: Sprague Carrier Replacement - VIDEO

i am fixing to do this on my rzr, do you have to remove the upper a-arm? on either side? another video showsthe diff. removed from passenger side, and yours from drivers side? will it go out either side? do i have to totally break down the wheel assemblyand remove hub or to remove axle, i wondered if the top a arm removed would let the axle come out while attached as hub end? trying to remove as least amount of bolts possible. thanks

I don't know about removing the upper A-arm but that seems much harder to me. You would also have to remove the lower arm as well and pull the whole thing away from the machine. All you have to do is separate the hub (knuckle) from the A-arm ball joint as I did and then you can pull out the axle. One bolt you can save is the lower pinch bolt on the hub. It does not need to come out. Just the upper pinch bolt. That would save a little effort.

And yes, the differential can come out either side. One thing I'd suggest is to re-attach the vent tube before re-installing the diff. It's pretty tight doing it after.

Re: Sprague Carrier Replacement - VIDEO

Just a follow-up. I spent some quality time in the machine on Saturday and confirmed everything is working great. AWD comes on an off as it should.

Re: Sprague Carrier Replacement - VIDEO

Does anyone have an update on the 50" and S model carriers? Are they plastic like previous years or metal like the XP? Thanks for the time and effort on the video btw, well done!

Re: Sprague Carrier Replacement - VIDEO

Another update - I put on about 50 miles on heavy, muddy trails. Lot's of big logs and rocks. It was this environment that broke the plastic carrier and the new one is holding up great. At one point I came down pretty hard on spinning front wheels and cringed thinking I'd hear the dreaded ratchet sound. Nope. I only heard the sound of my RZR tearing forward through logs, rocks and mud! This is a great fix.
