Wear your harnesses!!!

Wear them or get them.
It was a wake up call for the wife and I when we came upon these guys that ran into a tree in the Munds park area
Not sure if they were wearing their lap belts but harnesses would have prevented them from the injuries they received
I gave an ice pack to one that had a huge bump on his head but his passenger needed medical attention. His forehead was cut wide open from hitting the half windshield.
Out of respect for the individual I refrained from taking pictures of him but the rhino deserved a picture
Wife and I normally ride alone and we got in the bad habit of just using the lap belts when we putt putt around
Harnesses all day long now

Re: Wear your harnesses!!!

Slowing down would have been even better. With that much damage he wasn't just sight seeing the area. I drive that trail system 2-3 times a year. Plus there are other people on the trail. people and their lead foot cause more breakdowns and equipment failure than any other reason.
Why people think they can drive out of their skill level?

When I taught defensive and evasive driving I always had 1-2 that thought they were great behind the wheel the first day. So I always put the class on a break and took the hotshots out to the track and let everyone watch. Took them through the course. In 24 years I had 100% failures from the hotshot drivers. Then it was time for them to listen and learn. By the end of class they were good to go like other others in the class. Being an experienced driver in all situations isn't about speed.

Yep.... I'm dirt bike guy first and rzr guy second. This is the reason sxs are hated!!!!!!!! By the bike guys. There is a bunch a bike guys calling for the ban of sxs on trails( I'm not one of them)

No helmets? People think because they have a cage they don't need a can for their head. Just look back at the thread on here and see what your head looks like when it hits a roll cage.

Re: Wear your harnesses!!!

Well, not to start an argument. I have no love for the two wheel riders. They go way to fast and are not respectful of others and have a very bad habit of going off trail when they want. And yes I'm an old two wheeler.

SO, it is not the machine they are on are in. It is a maturity/head problem. If the motorized community cannot get along on the same trail systems then we all will loose. The land manager will take the easy way out and simple CLOSED TO MOTORIZE USE signs will appear.

Its always the driver/rider.... the bigger problem by far is the sxs crowd.... sorry I ride my dirt bikes a bunch and drive my sxs some and it's very evident where the problem is. Rude drivers and riders and the larger portion being the sxs crowd.

Re: Wear your harnesses!!!

First let me state I'm a SXS rider. The problem to me is any one who can sit in the seat and touch the gas and brake peddle can drive a SXS. You get way to many people that drive SXS that think they are race car drivers and get into a situation that they can not handle and get in a serious accident.
Now to off road motorcycle. You can't just jump on a dirt bike with zero riding experience and go rip through a rocky trail. Well you can I guess but won't be riding very long till your down.
So bottom line for me is it is not the dirt bike or SXS but the BOZO (for the young people on here BOZO was a clown) that is sitting behind the handle bars or steering wheel. We have to as a community police ourselves.

Re: Wear your harnesses!!!

My local experience is the Quad folks are the 1's acting like idiots... I'm new to RZRing, (had our 900 for 3 months now) but I grew up racing moto-x, and I was pretty good also, and 2 wheel/MXer's in our area are NOT the problem, the quads just do whatever they want, (doing donuts in our dirt parking area, spraying people's tow vehicles with crap, etc) racing around like mad..... Just a matter of time before one of the quads runs head into something, tree, SXS, or trucks/jeep out on the trails.... BTW, I always wear my Pro-Ar. harness, unless my wife is driving, then we are just putting around...

True statement except I ride my dirt bikes and drive my sxs. My wife rides
As a passenger and then drives when she wants. Where did this baloney of riding a sxs come from? Do you ride or drive your car? Pickup?

Re: Wear your harnesses!!!

This rhino wasn't even set up properly, if they can ever be, but not sure if you can see the bolts that hold the backet for the windshield are about an 1 1/2" too long and the threaded end is inside the cab.
Those kids were lucky they didn't lose an eye.
The rear tires barely have any tread. Looks like they came over the hill too fast and hit the smooth river rock on the other side and went for a slide.
One of our friends had a rhino and hit some whoops and the passenger in the rear broke her back.

If you want to get on a discussion about bad apples and motorcycles,
I ride a street bike. Hence the name 185EZ.
Everyone pictures me as a crotch rocket racer hoodlum until I take off my helmet and they see all the gray hair.

Really. Take a person who has never driven a car or a motorcycle put them in a SXS and then a motorcycle. Which one will they get to drive down a dirt trail? I'm not here to argue with any one. It is a very simple fact that a SXS is very easy for any one to drive. Some of those drivers think they are race car drivers and screw up very quickly. All three, motorcycle ATV and UTV's have a few stupid people driving them As a community we need to police ourselves. Not blame the other groups because they ride some thing we don't.

Not sure why you quoted me. I agree 100 percent. The thing that drives me nuts is you drive!!! A sxs not ride. Does one ride their car/ pickup?

Harnesses are a great addition and greatly reduce injury in the event of a crash.
And on side trail this thread has gone, there are bad apples in every crowd. Its far worse on the streets than in the dirt IMO. Best solution is set the proper example as best we can. Pointing fingers won't help any of us.
