1000 XP or XP Turbo

Hey all, so after some thinking about my recent purchase of an older rzr 800, I realize that was the wrong vehicle for my driving style and as they say, hind sight is 20/20. So I’m probably going to sell it to my brother in law because the type of riding he does, a trail size is perfect for him. Anyhow, I’m looking between as the title states, 1000 xp or a xp turbo, depending on the price difference. I found Abernathy’s cycles and will be going to purchase from there most likely in the spring.

My question is for those who have one or the other, what do you like about yours, what do you wish was different, why did you pick the turbo over the non turbo or vice versa. Any issues to look for?

Re: 1000 XP or XP Turbo

I am not a RZR owner yet either...I was told the turbo has to run on premium fuel and cab temps are much hotter than the xp is...but again, I'm just going by what I was told and what I've read....the other thing I hear is the reverse chain is weak link on the xp and the turbo is gear on gear....I'm leaning towards the xp because its plenty of power for me...

I also believe that the 1KXP would be plenty powerwise for me, but the dealership I’m looking at it’s only 900$ extra to go to the turbo so it’s not completely out of question which is nice. But I definitely want to get my ducks lined up this time before I pull the trigger

Re: 1000 XP or XP Turbo

same here. Turbo is only a few hundred more so I don't know...I'm more of a slow trail rider and I hate cab heat. Just don't wanna make a expensive mistake

The XPT is a better machine than the XP in every category. It's not simply about more power but a better drivetrain, suspension, engine, brakes, etc... Do a search and you will find this question 100s of times.

Re: 1000 XP or XP Turbo

Bought mine in Apr ‘18, been a good machine and there is more than enough power. Yes it does require premium fuel and it uses more of it than a XP1K. I have a glass windshield in mine and the cab does get hot in the summer months, but its nice in the winter. I have 3,500 miles on it and no problems so far other than the carrier bearing at 3,200 miles.

I bought my 2017 XP 1000 2 years ago, thinking I would never need more. I'm trading it in and taking a loss on it Saturday because guess what, I need more! I trail ride woods mostly, but also coal wash hills and old mining properties in western PA. The XP has lots of power, but I found myself easily reaching its limit. It's just not that fast.

In my humble opinion, if you have to ask the question, it means in your heart you know you want the turbo. Just do it right the first time, err..second time...and get the dang turba!

Re: 1000 XP or XP Turbo

We have one of each in family. 17 non turbo. 18 Turbo Dynamix. Daughter has the 17. She can not wait to be able to upgrade to a turbo.

The turbo has so much more torque. Comes in handy.

Jammin; I understand your sentiment and I thought the same originally, but then a friend of mine bought the Can am xrc turbo and we were trail riding and while he didn’t need the turbo on the trails, on the open spots in the power lines and hill climbs he had some good fun with it. I mainly do trails and hill climbs and rock crawls and for that I figured the 1KXP would handle just fine, and realistically if the price difference on the turbo was excessive I wouldn’t have a second thought about it. The fact that it’s so close in price is a big reason I’m considering it.

I thank Michigan man, ford truck man, and everyone else who’s chimed in thus far telling me you don’t regret it or the opposite that you bought the non turboed and decided to go higher. While I’m still a ways off from purchase and things can change, I’d like to make this my last purchase of a machine for some time so if there’s an inkling I’d wanna go turboed I might as well just do so right out the gate. This all being my opinion though
