After a short 88 mile ride yesterday through some of the spectacular scenery of the Black Hills, it came to me to ask you experienced riders about your fav trips in the area. I'm currently in Deadwood through Monday 7-29 am. Any special places I should go? I would especially like a picture with Mt Rushmore as a backdrop. I'm towing a 16' enclosed cargo so parking is always an issue but I'm willing to trailer for those extra special places.
Thoughts?

What a awesome area to be in, I have no advice for you though, I’ve only been to sturgis for the rally, but going back up with the RZR is definitely on my list, keep us posted on your adventures!!

Re: Riding the Black Hills of SD

Mystic Hills Hideaway Resort, south of Deadwood on 385 (5 to 10 miles ?) used to have ATV/SXS rentals. The rental place sells maps with points of interest highlighted on it. Well worth the money. Centennial Trail (89) is a fun trail. Off of it is a look out spot with a flag that over looks Nemo. Good photo opp.
The grave yard and rock wall by Galena is interesting.
The bar in Rochford is also interesting.

Awesome area to ride with a ton of places to ride!! Several areas are marked and some are not. We actually head that way at least once a year and sometimes twice a year to ride.

Here's just few places that come to mind,

Camp 5 and the China Wall - Cool place with creeks and some really rocky trails

Nemo - Head up to the flag for an awesome view.

Nemo Cemetery - Just outside of town and its an old cemetery.

Custer Peak - It's a fire watch tower that is still in use and offers one of the greatest views in the hills!!

Rochford - The bar is a great place to stop and check out.

Flag Mountain - Another peak that is really cool

Cement Ridge Lookout - Fire watch tower with great views

Tinton the ghost town - Very close to Cement Ridge, its fenced off but you can see some of the buildings

Galena the ghost town - Its over by Camp 5 and has several buildings that have been restored, so not a true ghost town....???

Horse Thief Cave - is also in the Camp 5 area but its off of an official Rock Crawler trail. I've never been there but it looks cool in that area.

Power lines - not on the map but you can run several routes as long as you avoid the private land. If you have Avenza maps it makes it easier.

Silica Sands Mine - Awesome place, off of trail 6021, which is just south of Deerfield Lake.

Hill City - Great little town with good places to eat and a few wineries that offer wine tasting for the ladies...... LOL

Like I said, it's an awesome place to ride with tons of areas to go. If you have Avenza maps there are three different maps for Black Hills. One for the northern hills, one for the central hills and one for the southern hills. Down load them all and you are set.

Also check out,

Tons of more information are on this site!!

Good luck and have fun!!
