Things I've learned here

I'm new here. I posted an intro in the new members area. But, I've been riding ATVs for some time and recently branched out into a RZR. I have a 2008 RZR 800. Going to be using it to ride the Alpine Loop later this year. Thanks to this forum, I've done some improvements and more to come. Below is a list of things I've done so far:

- Trail tank-replace original tank. The original tank was leaking from the usual places. I tried all the fixes I found and nothing worked. I got it to leak less but nothing I was doing stopped the leaking. So, I purchased the Trail Tank. Roughly an extra 2 gallons of fuel. Install was very easy. I didn't have to drill out the pump flange bolt holes...everything lined up perfectly. Definitely a better tank than the OE one. Really like it a lot. The extra capacity will be nice.

- Wheel bearings. Installed all new wheel bearings. Found out there is still a little play in the front wheels especially the driver's side. Not bad but more than I want. Discovered I have the original hubs and not the upgraded version. Will be ordering the new ones soon. Thought about going with the steel hubs but decided the upgraded aluminum versions should be fine for my use. I don't ride hard. I mainly like to enjoy the scenery wherever I ride and I drive pretty slow.

- Ordered the wheel bearing greasing tools (both 40mm and 44mm for when I get the new hubs installed)

- Changed all the fluids and found the rear axle drain plug was stripped. Read on here and found it's a common problem. Looked at it and discovered the engineer who designed it was a moron. It's a very short drain plug and then it's a tapered thread plug. Meaning, there's only about 1 thread actually holding the drain plug in there and it's aluminum so it's soft. Bought a 1/2 inch long 3/8x24 thread hex head cap screw (roughly 1/4 inch or a hair longer than the original drain plug). Threaded in perfectly and since it's longer and not tapered, it's solid as can be.

- Changed the rear axle CV boots. Went with NICHE brand boots. They worked ok but wish they fit a little better. If I have further issues, I may upgrade to all new axles. So far they seem to be working fine though.

- Installed NGK iridium spark plugs

- Installed a winch. Went with a Harbor Freight 3500 lb winch and a KFI winch mount. Easy install.

- Installed a new CV belt. Went with a Gates C12. The belt on it was a Polaris brand belt and it looked ok. The Gates belt is a bit beefier.

Most of the information for the above repairs/modifications I read about on here. Much appreciated!
