Thanks RLee & SCAr1!!!

We have already moved our normal August plans to September. After Labor day when all the little booger eaters are back in school.

Stony pass open to the top and then we were pushing the bulldozer again as he starts down the other side. Great ride - lots of snow. Took a side trail and went a ways before shoveling a few drifts. Eventually, we ran into a drift 6ft deep over the trial that our little camp shovels wouldn’t make a dent in.

We'll be in Lake City on 7/6...reports from up there yesterday had Hinsdale County making the last push up Engineers from their side. Almost to American Basin on the Cinnamon Pass Rd too. They just got punched through all the avalanche/snow slide debris. Hoping at least one leg of the Alpine Loop will be cleared by the time we get there.

Awesome news, that sounds promising. We will arrive in lake City 7/6 as well and have a cabin rented right on the lake.

Re: Silverton Colorado next month. Routing help.

Glad this thread is updating the conditions. The wife and I will be out there riding the Alpine Loop in late Sept/early Oct. Glad we didn't plan an earlier trip!

I'll be following this thread closely!

Did Corkscrew yesterday. Open to the top no further and I don’t think they are going forward anymore. No bulldozer. Good view but if you are brave enough to hike across the snow you can reach the very top of Red Mountain 2 which is one of the best views in the area. After leaving there we did prospector gulch and it was good but eventually blocked by an avalanche. Good place for lunch. We shoveled snow out of the way and were the first ones to the main avalanche. Went up Kendall mountain in the evening and you can go up a ways but eventually get blocked on the backside from Silverton before you start up the primary shelf road. We actually had to back our stupid long turbo 4 back down a ways after reaching snow. Not that much fun on the edge, but memorable.

I'm planning to be there in early August. Hoping for the best, obviously. Thanks for the reports!

Re: Silverton Colorado next month. Routing help.

Stony Pass is open all the way through. Muddy at higher elevations and narrow passages due to snow on the sides of the roads. I wish large trucks and autos weren’t going through. Tried several side trails off the Stony Pass road and they are snow blocked.
The mountain road up the the mint. from the center of town to the south is blocked due to snow and the block is fairly low.

Did Maggie and Minnie Thursday. Both were blocked a couple miles up. Friday loaded up and headed to Ouray and did Yankee Boy and Governor Basin. Both blocked midway up but the waterfall was worth the ride. Headed off to Imogene and got a ways before hitting snow. As usual our group does our thing and got out our shovels and cleared some snow. We were the first through on what we call the lower loop that allows you to go back to the main road without backtracking. The upper trail heading toward the falls has a massive avalanche and no go. Fun ride and fun day though.

Re: Silverton Colorado next month. Routing help.

Major development on Trail #2 which goes out of Silverton north towards Animas Forks. The river along the road between Silverton and Eureka (last rv park) breeched the dike along the road and has washed out the road indefinitely at this time. Police have closed the road. They have tried to evacuate everyone north of the breach and their equipment. The evac was only for two hours today. Anyone who didn’t make it is stranded. The bridge just past Eureka is accumulating avalanche debris and causing water to backup and overflow. This may put the Eureka park and surrounding area under water. This is a wait and see major issue.

The river on the east side of Stoney Pass is so bad that people in jeeps have washed away and one person has not been found.
Hiker found dead from previous avalanche.

There are rescues everyday because people try to go places they shouldn’t.

Tense issues and moments here in Silverton.

Re: Silverton Colorado next month. Routing help.

p.s.
The the poor evacuees:
The moron city council will let you dry camp in a vacant spot of land in town for $50 a night. No hookups. Need a council change.

Re: Silverton Colorado next month. Routing help.

As of July 9.
No trails open to Lake City yet. They are working on on. Maybe by the end of the week. County Rd. 2 from Silverton to Animas Forks still blocked and they aren’t working on it. Who knows if this will open. Road yesterday on numerous trail out off the Stony Pass roads. Most are still blocked up high. I had to turn around several times. It’s not just snow, but huge tree debris from snow slides. Rain predicted at 40% - 50% for the next 10 days. Still lots of mud everywhere. Down to 33F last night.

Eureka main road still not fixed. Still a muddy one lane bypass.

In the last 6 years this is definitely the worst.

Re: Silverton Colorado next month. Routing help.

We rode from Lake City via Engineer over to Animas Forks, then thru California Gulch, over Hurricane Pass down into Silverton and back last week. Still tons of snow.
Cinnamon is supposed to be open this week. CR2 from Silverton to Animas Forks is washed out in one spot, blocked by a slide further up in another.

Re: Silverton Colorado next month. Routing help.

I am up here riding this week, going home tomorrow the aug 11th. The scenery is amazing, Thursday friends and i did the Alpine loop, went the north side thru Engineer pass to lake city then came back the south side to find it was closed at Cinnamon pass, the county road workers were at the closed gate and said it would be closed for 2-3 weeks yet. But still worth the trip.

Did you ride your RZR down Hwy 149 from Lake City back onto the Alpine Loop? From my understanding, it's officially not permitted but the local LE intentionally look the other way and don't enforce it. I can't seem to get a solid answer on that.
