In Helmet Bluetooth Radio/Coms

After researching audio systems for my XP 1000 I've come to the conclusion that I want an in helmet system.
Must haves.
Cordless.
Ability to listen to music from my phone .
Ability to talk to passengers but really not other machines .
Ability to easily turning and off the mikes so I don't have to listen to the passenger singing along with the music.
Separate volume controls .
Waterproof.
Affordable but not a cheap piece of crap.

Thoughts?

Re: In Helmet Bluetooth Radio/Coms

I picked up this bluetooth set back in April for our 4 day trip to HMT and I was very happy with it. I used it to communicate with my daughter riding with my father in his car mostly, but there were times my daughter rode in the seat next to me in my car and it worked very well in both cases. Two days we used them for 8+ hour rides. As long as we were in range, we could easily communicate with each other. It supports up to 8 units in an open intercom configuration (no push to talk). Take a look, I think it would meet your requirements.

Fodsports Motorcycle Bluetooth Intercom

Cordless - yes, bluetooth from unit to unit, not dependent on cell phone
Ability to listen to music from my phone - yes, switch between intercom and cell phone with the push of a button
Ability to talk to passengers but really not other machines - it communicates from helmet to helmet, if they are in the same car or another car
Ability to easily turning and off the mikes so I don't have to listen to the passenger singing along with the music. - can turn off the mic, but you can switch from intercom to cell phone with the push of a button
Separate volume controls - yep, each connection has its own volume setting, though I admit its a bit tricky with knowing what the volume is set at
Waterproof - yes
Affordable but not a cheap piece of crap - I bought 2 units for $150

Earpad and mic installation is key, get them in a good position to pickup your voice and hear the others.

Re: In Helmet Bluetooth Radio/Coms

Look into Sena Bluetooth units.

https://www.sena.com/product/30k

We went down the same road and now have a rugged setup with voice activated in car and push to talk radio. Helmets can be cordless with some units.
Bluetooth range will be limited when compared to a 50watt cb style radio.

Re: In Helmet Bluetooth Radio/Coms

I bought cheapo units on E-bay.
They work good. Wired them into my full face and open face helmets.
Phone, music and intercom.
Only volume adjustment though.
Velcros on to the helmet- easy to remove and switch helmets.
Less than $ 100 with the 4 headsets.

Re: In Helmet Bluetooth Radio/Coms

I coach for motorcycling riding on road race courses.

We use a set up called "Cardo Scala Rider" it's a "mesh" style system. They are wireless and Bluetooth to your phone.

The more people on the "mesh" the wider the range. You can set them up to be just your group (passengers) or more broadly to an entire group if you wish. They handle wind noise quite well and the voice activation works well. (especially compared to say the Chatterbox)

The only problem I have found is that the speakers don't fit as well in the "adventurer" style helmets like they do on the full face streetbike helmets.
Rockwerx and 185EZ like this.

Sena. Works great and if other have it in other vehicles you can talk to them. I've had them now for 2 years and we still like them and use them all the time.

PACKTALK DUO

I have two 4 seaters, I wanted something flexible that would work with helmets or earmuffs.
I paid about $600 per 4 seater.
These units work very well, mesh technology allows all 8 to easily talk to each and listen to music that mutes a little when someone is talking plus they have FM radio tuners in each one, I put a FM Transmitter in each rzr to transmit music to all 4 headsets in each rzr.
Cardo Systems claims that DMC can manage up to 15 members over a range of 1 mile between individual users and over a combined range of 5 miles in a group ride.
They also have a extra bluetooth channel that I could hookup a bluetooth walkie-talkie if i wanted a little more range between rzr's, but i have not tried that yet
If you have any questions feel free to call me. Leo 918-810-9194

So much for not breaking the bank.
Picked up a pair of the Packtalk Slim yesterday.
Wife and I fought for about 2 hrs last night at the cottage trying to get them going. The 2-4 page instruction sheet they give you is laughable.
Downloaded a 29 page manual this morning when I went to town to get a signal.
Gonna do a temp install with some 2 way tape and do a ride.
I'll report back with results.

Sick of fighting with there things to get them to do what I want .
If my 19 yr old cant get them working properly then there is absolutely no hope for me.
These are going back and I'm probably gonna give some cheap ski / snowboard helmet headphones a try.

Re: In Helmet Bluetooth Radio/Coms

Sorry for asking maybe a silly question but did you pair them first or is that what you can't do?
I know my cardo scala has a certain sequence to get the lights in pairing mode

Maybe this video might help

Paired everything. Np.
Cant share google music
Turning on and off coms is a pita.Pairing to one another for bluetooth was super difficult.
The whole press these 2 buttons for 2 seconds then this one button till the light flashes a certain colour is bs.
My expectations for this were super high based on the reviews that I watched . In retrospect I now realize that all I watched were fluff pieces (my bad) and not a real life demo of this product.
It would be one thing if the cost was like $150 or so but for almost $400 (canadian)

Re: In Helmet Bluetooth Radio/Coms

That's odd.
Only problem I had was hitting the right buttons to pair the headsets as you said getting to the right color but once that's done the pairing doesn't have to be done again.
Connecting to bluetooth was the EZ part. Once it's on my phone the cardo connects automatically to my phone as long as bluetooth is on.
Not sure what's going wrong
Only one headset can connect to one phone
Both headsets can't listen to the same music at least on mine it can't

You are supposed to be able to share music in bluetooth mode.We accomplished that.
Problem is when doing this and using the "hey cardo " command..
It controls the other headset and well.
The bs was just endless.!
