Now that is no longer the issue, but I have found that the main reason for the insurance companies not writing coverage for these vehicles has to do with Michigan's unlimited medical coverage on licensed vehicles. So far everyone I have had contact with has refused to write a policy. If you are lucky enough to have had a existing policy that has not cancelled you are considered "grandfathered" but that is becoming extremely rare. I am waiting to hear back from Farmers, hopefully they can do something.

State Farm told me no problem. I've rec'd quotes for full coverage on and off road.

Do you mind telling us what they quoted you?

Ah, just remembered we have a receipt when we leave sos so they know you’re going through the process.

Sorry to hear that! After I left the sos I remember thinking “shit” they have my title. Seems like such a strange process.
Thanks PartyMan,

Yeah, Lansing said they got the application and I think the parts receipts (I copied those). That was all.

Seems like it would be easy for the Assembly Title outfit to access a copy of a title up there.

I’m a little worried about mine. They didn’t send in all receipts for vehicle parts. They only kept receipts that I paid taxes on. I told them twice I had parts that I needed to pay taxes on. I think they were sorry it took more than an hour to figure out the new software and weren’t worried about that. She even asked the manager what to send in. I hope I’m good!

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

Hey guys, just checking in to see if anyone had some good news. I think I'm on the plate wagon again.

Partyman, I'm sure you're good to go because you didn't get a nasty-gram like me.

Side note, a buddy of mine is getting an already plated RZR and has been looking for insurance. The only company he has had luck with is State Farm. The funny part is they want pictures of all the street legal parts added. I've never heard of that.

Nothing yet. No news is good news I guess.

My State Farm also said they would like pictures of the vehicle.

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

I just called my local state police post and was told that they will not do an inspection on my general and "good luck finding someone who will." Anyone having any luck getting this process started? Thanks in advance

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

What reason are they giving you for not doing the inspection?

Evidently he's not seen this sent out by the Michigan State Police to the posts: https://www.michigan.gov/documents/m...9_652782_7.pdf

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

He said the bill is not well written and vague. And as a department they feel there are safety concerns. Has anyone found a state police post willing to do them? I'd be willing to travel a little ways to get it done. What have you guys been doing for rear bumpers? Or have you found it not to be necessary? Thanks

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

I would go up the the chain of command at that post to find out where this is coming from.

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

That is the same crap they did back when the first street legals were done. Since they won't do it will spread to local police also and then no one will sign them.

It looks like the state police make their own laws and enforce what they want.

How much clearer could it be than the bulletin posted by pumpkins.

I would contact your local county sheriff for first inspection, what everyone is having trouble with now and getting denied is for the parking brake. The state is requiring you to have an emergency brake system totally separate and independent from the machines factory hydraulic brakes. They want a cable activated brake system mounted on at least 2 wheels that will stop the vehicle if the primary system fails.

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

Keep in mind that the TR-54 is only one of two inspections. The second coming on the VIN sticker day.
