My rzr doesn't have one. That's why we burn up tires so fast when we ride on the street.

I agree our RZR don;t have one unless they have the turf mode.

Our RZR's don't have a differential gear by definition it must be capable of the axles rotating at different speeds. That is why they are called a differential.

I hope they don't start looking at this now.

This was my thinking as well but sounds like others have more experience from the previous law that it wasnít an issue. Itís not written very clearly. My feeling is the intention is to protect roadways by having machines without locked diffs but again...not very clear.

A parking brake is nothing compared with other items. Easy to install and cheap. There are many parking brakes available got the RZR. Here is one.

So some rzr don't have diffs?

Xp has front diff and rear (I think). No diff means what you have a straight axle like a quad?

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

Welcome to the free world, Michigan! Well, almost… Sheesh, that’s a lot of equipment to require! I’ve been street legal in Utah since 2014. However, I’m not sure I would have ever done it if our regulations were the same as Michigan’s. Your requirements are WAY over the top! Seems if a motorcycle doesn’t require a full GLASS windshield with wiper and washer, then a RZR shouldn’t either. It shouldn't require a $1k investment to make your rig legal. Utah's equipment requirements cost me around $100. Signals, horn, mirrors. Everything else came stock on my RZR. Collision and comp cost me just over $130 and registration is based on the year of the vehicle, so... ~$160 this year. The annual $200 is worth it to me. I often drive it to work during the summer months. Gets better mileage than my truck... lol

Here’s a bit of encouragement for you folks in Michigan: I’ve been riding my RZR (street legal) in Utah since 2014. Since then; the laws have gotten more UTV-friendly every year! Used to be only legal in cities/towns under 7,000 population. The next year they removed the city/town population restriction, but a certain county was still off-limits and there was still no limited access highway usage or interstate usage allowed. Recently the hold-out county voted to allow street-legal UTVs and the limited access highway restriction went away. UTV speed restrictions also increased to 50 MPH (from 45 MPH) on roads posted faster, but interstates are still forbidden (I don’t have a problem with that one at all!) Anyway, seems that once the foot is in the door, things progressively get more UTV friendly. Yay! Just be aware that a few butt-head drivers could ruin it for everyone pretty fast, so watch your speed and noise in residential areas.

No way in the world Iím buying the Polaris kit for $500!

Might be to early to ask. Did anyone with previous street legal machines add a washer kit.

My washer kit was $30. It was very basic and right after inspection I ripped it back off. I ended up putting the supply tank under the front fender.

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

Some of you are really dreaming. I donít see how you could do this for less then $3k. It cost me all of that last time I did it. Just the fees from the DMV were about $300. I got rid of all my paperwork but it was quite an investment unless you can find a bunch of good used stuff or already have street legal tires. I was able to get the cop to sign off on a plexiglass windshield and a hand crank wiper which saved my a lot right there.

And after I when through all this last time I got hassled at Silver Lake because I had on paddle tires with a license plate. They wanted to know how it could be street legal with paddle tires. I told them it wasnít that I in-fact trailered it into the park. Then the wanted me to remove the license plate which contained my park pass on it... gosh itís always a struggle with the DNR at least in my opinion, and Iím nice and obedient, never drunk or rude.

A couple of those people at the booth over there think they are very important. I like it there, but I don’t feel like going through the hassle anymore. Between the vouchers, and the inconsistency at the gate, you never know if you will get in or not.

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

If I didnít live in southwest MI I wouldnít really care so much but I have to trailer 2 hours to ride. Some of the items like a ryfab windshield and new tires I plan to buy anyways. Loved it on my 570. I like the idea of driving to work or riding the federal land in the lower when I do get up north.

I think we can ride the forest roads and seasonal roads this spring without a license plate, they just made that modification the end of 2018, I donít know all the details but the Allegan woods is 10miles from my house so I am very excited. I agree though, zero places to ride in Southwest MI until now.

This fall my wife was towing me behind the truck with my quick-disconnect (30sec to unhook), they wouldnít let me unhook at the turnaround because the parking lot was full and my truck isnít done ready. My wife is extremely mellow and this pissed her off bad, she couldnít understand the stupidity. Either could I, It was kinda a day wrecker. I just didnít anticipate the lot filling up and they werenít offering vouchers the night before anyway.

I don’t think they will EVER open up the Allegan forest for ORV’s.

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

With no rear differential on standard Polaris models, a person could be in for problems with both the state and your insurance carrier if you signed paperwork indicating that you do have a differential, i.e. fraud.

Re: Michigan hb5639 passed

That is the big question. What is "differential gear"?

If the definition means your vehicle must have what we refer to as limited slip differential, on Polaris it's "turf mode", then they should not be able to pass an inspection.

I'm not buying any accessories to make mine road legal yet because I'm assuming mine will not be eligible because I do not have turf mode.

Michigan will always be a fun sucker!
