Re: Got an idea for hot cab....lets hear input or flame me!!

Got both parts of the console insulated finally today...

Took it out for a late afternoon drive and have to say I am VERY PLEASED. It wasn't SUPER HOT out, as it had recently rained, but after a 20 minute ride, the console was warm to the touch but nowhere near the scalding hot it's been in the past. Hope to take it out for a trail ride this weekend for a more in-depth test...

Re: Got an idea for hot cab....lets hear input or flame me!!

Used spray from on the console then trimmed it down to fit after it expanded and dried. I also used header rap on the rad lines. The console does not get hot anymore.

This set up works great and you can easily take it out for the winter or if you have get to your carrier bearing. They will have a few other insulators not pictured that will be with them.

T foam will soak up water like a sponge and cause rust. Make sure it's not in contact with any metal

I'd worry that covering those lines may make your engine run hotter. I'd try to insulate between you and the lines, rather than stopping heat from dissipating.
The radiator is for transferring heat. The lines are for transferring fluid. The thermostat controls how hot your coolant is allowed to get.

Its does not make it run hotter. I have mine insulated with pipe insulation. The only temp that changed was the temp in the cab.

I also insulated the entire center console. My feet( I ride in flip flops a lot) and drinks don't get over ambient air temp now.
Since the tunnel is hot we know the lines are radiating heat not just transferring fluid. If you put pipe wrap on the lines then whatever heat was radiating from the line is now contained (or better contained) in the lines. This extra heat now goes to the radiator and engine. Whether it makes a difference or not I don't know, someone would have to measure it.
I say insulate the top of the tunnel, put a 12V fan it there and blow the heat out the bottom!

Re: Got an idea for hot cab....lets hear input or flame me!!

Here is what I did and I could tell on the next two rides. The stuff I used is for a roof. It is metal tape with tar on the other side. Very sticky and I cleaned the underside of my console with alcohol. My drinks are not as hot and my leg did not get as hot as it did.

Re: Got an idea for hot cab....lets hear input or flame me!!

The op waited to know about reversing the fan. I've been thinking about this myself since spending 6 days riding in Wyoming during almost record heat. We are primarily trail riders and seldom achieve speeds that have much effect on cooling the radiator. With that said, maybe a reversible fan would work. As soon as the stock fan comes on you can feel the heat in the cab. We've just moved back from an xp1k4 to a gold le and there's a considerable difference between the two of them for cab heat. I have the wolfsnout heat blanket behind the seats and will be insulating the tunnel next but something will have to be done about heat coming thru the firewall. I did seal the firewall seam with black silicone seal but I can't tell if it helped any. Still looking for ideas. I have front and rear full windshield and roof and lower doors.

Well I abandoned the reversing fan idea for now. Going to Kentucky soon to ride but I've insulated the rear of cab, wrapped my rad lines under tunnel, made a shield behind the fan to block direct hot air and I'm removing my door lowers so short of riding around naked or adding AC I think it's gonna be Ok!
