rzr 800s, what would be your next upgrade path and why?

I mainly do trail riding 95% of the time which is technical, tight and full of a lot of cornering. Rarely can I open my machine up past 35mph on most trails.

I like my 800s, but it just seems to be lacking hp/tq (not that I really need more, but I want more).

My 800s is paid for, I just did a bunch of maintenance to it and bought a bunch of aftermarket stuff for it. It will more than likely stay as my dedicated plow machine and eventually get passed on to the wife to drive. when I buy another machine.

I cant decide between a 900XP or 900s 88hp on the older models, or a newer 1000s.

Most decent 900XP machines used are in the $10k range while the 1000's are in the $14k-$16k range where I live.

I am torn as what to buy next and was curious on your opinions. I know the 1000's are around 100HP which is a bunch compared to the 900, but my current machine only has around 53HP or so and anything would be a big upgrade at this point. Really looking for the TQ or low end grunt.

Looking for a good reliable engine and drive-train that will last me many years to come with regular maintenance.

if you rarely get over 35, maybe try a clutch kit to gain some punch down low. may be worth spending the ~$100 before jumping to a larger machine.

besides being a much cheaper upgrade, your type of riding lends more to a smaller machine

I would look at the 900 as long as you don't need alot horsepower for the type of riding you do
And your wife can keep up with you in her rzr 800 ???

Already have a clutch kit. Wife and I going together with separate machines will be a rare occasion. Most of the time I go by myself or take the boy along while the wife is doing other things. I will go riding more often with the guys in my machine. When we go as a family I can take it easy so she can keep up.

As one member mentioned for the kind of riding you do a smaller machine might be the better option. Look at a 570S or 570 trail. 45 hp but more tq than your 800 has and the added benefit of 25-35 mpg....depending on riding conditions. Both will do well over 35 mph

An aftermarket cage for the wifes 800S because she drives it balls to the wall and jumps evey chance she gets. Been looking a while for one she will like

Re: rzr 800s, what would be your next upgrade path and why?

You don't say where you are but maybe Alaska? I have a nice clean 900xp for sale on here. The 900xp is a nice upgrade to the 800s, lot's more power and the suspension is night and day. A great option for $10k.
That being said, those same trails that you can only get up to 35mph on with your 800s, I can now do 60+ in my Turbo! Way more fun! So skip the 900 and go Turbo, your face will hurt from grinning the whole time you're in it.

Re: rzr 800s, what would be your next upgrade path and why?

I still have my 09 Rzr S I bought new.
Runs like a champ and still fun.
Of course I cannot keep up with the big dogs but I won't give it up until I find something else worthy of my demands without doing too much aftermarket stuff.
I do not want a turbo so I am looking at the new Arctic Cat when it goes into production.
A Yamaha 1k, no shifting and no turbo with state of the art suspension and steering tech and a good stock cage. May be the right fit for me.
Hoping Popo can match something like that.
Till then my 800 S goes everywhere I need it to go.

Re: rzr 800s, what would be your next upgrade path and why?

900S or 1000S. Either one.

You just have to choose. 78 VS 100 HP.

Is the 1000S worth the extra 22 HP? Other than that they are identical machines other than motor.

I ride with a guy who has a 1000S. Honestly if the 1000S was out when I sold my 570 and 800 i would have went that route instead of the XP. The machine has plenty of power for any trail riding or crawling that you will do. It has the legs to get up and move when needed.

It boils down to $$$. How much do you want to spend for HP.

**Edit**

Another option since you said you are in Alaska would be the General 1000. Its the identical platform to the 1000S but with a sport/utility body. So the motor/suspension is the same as well as the performance, but it gives you more storage in the rear for camping/fishing/hunting ect.
