Wrench Finally a Weather Proof UTV Radio.

TYT released the TH-8600 which is a mini 25W dual band VHF/UHF radio that is IP rated 56/67 depending on options. I installed one in my RZR 1000S and it looks great and has survived muddy rides and wash. Its the first one I've seen other than the discontinued Yeasu specifically for UTV market. Very happy with the display and the audio output. Only issue I've run into is with getting a dual band antenna mounted with a poly roof. If anyone has pics of a dual band antenna installed I'd love to see them for ideas.

That little radio looks promising!

Your series of video's on the multiplex is quite interesting as well. Thanks for posting up!

Re: Finally a Weather Proof UTV Radio.

Thanks.

I'll be working on getting the dual band NMO setup and tuned this weekend. VHF is half wave and works good as is but I'm going to have to work on the UHF section as its hard to get adequate ground plane.

The multiplexer is a fun project and really cleaned up my wiring and added some convenient features.

Re: Finally a Weather Proof UTV Radio.

I'm curious about this radio. Do you know how it's waterproof when it has a cooling fan on the back? This site (only showing preorder currently) shows it as waterproof... Tytera TYT TH-8600 Dual Band Mini Mobile Two Way Radio
