Dual battery. What do yall think of this.

Ok. Someone above said 1 amp. That threw me off. Big difference between 1 amp and 1 mA. Lol!

Re: Dual battery. What do yall think of this.

Looks like I will be going with the Sure Power: 12V 100A Battery Separator - Bi-Directional w/ Aux Start.

My only question (sorry if I missed this in previous threads) do I connect my stereo and lights to the aux battery or the main battery?

If the battery is going to be backup. Then connect to the main battery and not your backup battery.

I used a solenoid similar to this Battery-Related Products | Battery Isolators | Smart Battery Isolators48530 | Cole Hersee - Littelfuse

It is a smart one as well. My original hot wire to run machine goes to the original battery. All other power for lights stereo winch power steering etc. go to the Odyssey. The solenoid is mounted to the back of the floor pan on the outside to keep the battery box wiring to a minimum. The setup works good but still has flaws. If you crank the stereo on a mountain top listening to tunes all night the machine will always start still. If you read the function sequence the potential problem is easier to understand. Once the machine is started the primary battery is at the voltage required to allow the solenoid to connect for 2 minutes. Because the big battery is depleted it pulls as much energy from the starting battery as the wiring will permit. Now the voltage has dropped and the batteries will separate again. The batteries will connect shortly when the primary hits 13.2 volts again. This is all fine and the system will charge eventually. The problem is if you shut the machine off. The big secondary battery has depleted the small primary battery in those 2 minute intervals when they are joined together. Usually its night time and you have lights running as well. If you don't shut the machine off too soon its fine but I have had a few times where I did. Machine has pipes and I shut it down to talk and she wouldn't fire again. the charging systems on these machines suck. If I did it again I would put the small marine switch in. When you get somewhere and want tunes going or are doing some heavy winching switch to the big battery. When done switch back to the small battery. You can charge the big one up when you get home or back to camp. Charging multiple batteries is hard on the stator and it is not an easy fix. I always keep a charger on my machine so it is fully charged. After all that I would not say not to do the smart solenoid but just to be aware of the possibility of killing both batteries. It is simple.

1) The two batteries are electrically connected
together when either battery voltage is above
13.2V for 2 minutes (e.g. during charging).
2) The two batteries are isolated when both battery
voltages are below 12.7V for 1 minute.

Re: Dual battery. What do yall think of this.

Resurrected old thread but this is a popular option for a dual battery & the one I have.

A Better Choice than the Polaris Dual Battery Kit! :

Re: Dual battery. What do yall think of this.

Doesn't matter on brand of smart isolator. They all function in a similar manner and can be tricked as I posted. The problem on a 900 would be less as the charging system has way more out put. The one aczr2k posted looks more water proof.
