Re: R.A.C

Good to know Hoagie. I've been contemplating the pass but wanted to hear from some people that have ridden it. Thanks!

Re: R.A.C

I've been staying away from the Burma Road/Darkwater area. Recently FRO has not been policing well, and that area is turning into the wild west. illegal riders, riders riding on the road, rocks being kicked up in the parking lot at cars, trash on the ground, etcetc. It's not a good scenario. I either go to Ashland property, OR go to AOAA.

Just a heads up, most of the riding you are describing is not readings property if you are trying to get towards 80. That is all different coal companies and hunting clubs.

Re: R.A.C

ugh. gotta say, im completely turned off to this area. so much garbage everywhere. locals dump trash in the woods like there is nothing wrong with it. legit... it is a way of life for them. why pay for trash pickup when you can drive up the hill and dump trash once a month. lots of areas you see 2wd cars on the haul roads either dumping trash, scrapping metal from trash people have dumped, or doing meth.

dont believe me... you can see the garbage from google satellite.
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7309.../data=!3m1!1e3
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7370.../data=!3m1!1e3

scan around. its seriously everywhere. f'ing embarrassment to our species. even ignoring my anecdote below, i cant stand riding in the area cause that alone makes me sick.

furthermore... i know rac covers a lot of land, but this is my experience in the "new philadelphia" area... friends and i bought a small property to park/camp at. was told not to bother putting up a gate to keep people from dumping trash cause it would get cut down and scrapped. everything we tried to put there got stripped, burnt to the ground and whatever didnt burn would be scrapped. we ran into a bunch of local highschoolers out having a "bush party" one evening. they told me i was insane for riding in the area without a ccw. they werent joking at all. people are known to stop you at gunpoint, steal your machine, and by the time you walk to civilization, they're long gone. again, thats one part of the area... so take it for what it is worth...

but no thanks. trails are plentiful and challenging, but it gets old riding around un-scenic trails, pulling nails out of your tires and dodging garbage/meth-heads.

seriously, scum of the earth in those parts.
