South Las Vegas Riding

Hello,
Anyone in here ride south of Las Vegas, like in Goodsprings where the Pioneer Saloon is located. I have a buddy that lives in Vegas, want to plan a trip out there but do not want to ride alone in places like Devil Canyon. Just looking for info and if anyone frequents the area. I ride a 2019 XPT 4-seater. I raced motorcross for 8yrs. Not alot of sand experience but when i was out there for a visit, looked more like hardpacked sand and rock than anything, dry riverbed.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: South Las Vegas Riding

That is all i ride as I live in the far SW end of the city. Was just up around goodsprings this past weekend. All of the trails I have been on around the area are hard packed and rocks. No real soft sand dune kind of sand. It has been fairly hot during the day. Have plenty of water if this is happening in the near future.

Re: South Las Vegas Riding

Wife and i were out there March 2019, met up with my good friend and he took us out that way, we also went to that dried lake bed on the other side of the highway. We just bought our RZR in April and i can not wait to get out there. He lives on the North side and i would hopefully plan to come out in spring 2020 or when its a little cooler...lol Is there a map app you use or do you ride there enough to just know where you are? Cell signal for maps available? Your insight is appreciated.

Re: South Las Vegas Riding

You were probably out by Jean dry lake bed.

I do have a nav app running on a 10" tablet while going but rarely refer to it as I have just used "the force" when I am out adventuring...which is most of the fun for me. Been using the polaris command app...it freezes usually about 2 hours in so been thinking of going to the backcountry app although that app confuses the shit out of me. NO cell service out there to rely on. You have to download the map of the area in advance of leaving a wifi connection. Happy to help and catch up if you would like when you are in town.

Yes, i just looked at my pictures again and the map of where we where and you are correct. I remember alot of trails there and guys all over the place ripping around. I will for sure send you a message when i come out there. Trails look alot different than over here on the East Coast. Cant wait..... Seems like Pioneer Saloon is a hot destination for that area as well, to stay hydrated at least...lol. We sat on the outside patio. Many thanks..!!

I live in North Las Vegas.
You should check out Nellis Dunes AKA Apex
They have dunes and alot alot of trails. I recommend if you go at night to go with some one who knows the area. It is really easy to get lost.
I normally go almost every weekend at for some night riding and cooler weather.
If you have any questions let me know.

Lived in Vegas all my life and the entire valley is surrounded by good riding areas, most all have their pros and cons. If you’re going to play the lake beds and sand dunes watch out for nails. I lost three new tires in 10 minutes in the lake bed by Boulder City and seen lots of flats at apex.

Pioneer is a cool spot for sure but if you venture a bit further you can go to the coliseum mine and that’s a really cool ride!

For a real adventure try :
Tassi ranch near mesquite
Burro canyon wash near Boulder City
