slashes and knobs tearing off after only 2 rides. is this normal? too much pressure or what and why they are doing this? thanks for the help?

I have the 28" Swamp Lite tires on 12" rims with lots of hard riding (sharp rocks and pointy sticks make up all of my riding terrain) and have not had any of the issues you mention. I would suspect you may be running too much air pressure in your tires...The Swamp Lites recommend only 7lbs, but I'm not sure what the Mud Lites recommend.
