Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
I like switch to 26" tires and was thinking this two brand, but can't decide which way to go. My RZR will never see the mud mostly desert , sand and hard surface. Do you guys can post some pro and cons about them ? Go with 12" or 14 " ? And the last one, on the Holtz site they are selling 26 "Maxxis Bighorn set which all of them are only 9 " wide and they explain very good the pro's for running narrower tires all around. Did anybody run narrower tires on all 4 wheel and if so how do you like this set up ?

Re: Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
From what i've heard it's generally better to stay w/12" on a stock machine. Supposedly the 14"/bigger tire combo can suck up some power. I went w/12" paddles for the sand to play it safe and to make things easier on the machine. Any input from the guys with real experience?

Re: Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
I had the original Terracross tires until I took them off and threw them away. I never liked them from the first time I drove on them. Wore down extremely quick and multiple punctures. I then went with the Bighorns and I love them. I can't say enough good about the Bighorns. There is no comparing the two, not just the durability but the traction/hook-up is awesome. Never will I try or recommend the Terracross in my opinion, not even the XD version. Bighorns all the way!

Re: Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
I love my Big Horns, they really hook up on the rocks. You need to figure out what kind of riding you're going to be doing. If its a mixed terrian the I would say big horns, if you're a mudder, then the ITP

Re: Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
Any reason why you stay with 25 " size of tires ?

Ron,
I have a buddy that lives in Washougal. Is there anyplace to ride over there? From what i've heard it's generally better to stay w/12" on a stock machine. Re: Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
Howdy,
Jones Creek in Vancouver is about 20 minutes away. I've been there once on my Quad. There are fire roads and then a few trail "loops" but those are pretty tight for a RZR (although it would probably fit) and you really gotta watch out for stumps, roots, etc. More then one Quad has cartwheeled down a hill up there. Most people from this area will make the 1.5 hr drive to Browns camp in Tillamook Forest. Very extensive trail system over there. As for me, I'm mostly in the sand. Sand Lake, Florence, and Coos Bay. What does your buddy ride, and where are you at? Ron ...

Re: Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
my buddy primarily uses his quad to hunt. Not much of a "joy rider".
I am over in Spokane. There is quite a bit of riding here, within 2 hours there is probably over 1,000 miles of forest roads and trails. Funny, it's always appealing to see where everyone else rides. Tony |

Re: Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
I run 26-9-12 Maxxis tires all the way around. I chose them for the universal spare. It also gives it a dessert buggy look. I have about 1200 miles on the tires. The rears have about 50% remaining, and the fronts aren't far from new. I went with 12 rims to have more sidewall, and hopefully protect the rims.
Here's a pic.

Re: Maxxis Bighorn or ITP Terracross ?
i run 25x12-12 maxxis bighorn and i love them. I ride mostly in the sand and they hook up good. Went with 25 size and 12 inch wheel mostly for power output. I can get more power to the ground.

![]() Milos You might get more or less traction from other tires, but we are all about light weight- free up a little power. they offer great traction everywhere so it was an easy decision. 14" vs 12"... Here's the skinny. We weighed multiple styles and brand both 14" and 12' sizes. It dosent make enough difference to matter. The 12" tires weighed more than the 14" tires (same tire diameter) which offset the difference in weight on the two wheel sizes. I personaly like the 14" wheels better because they look cooler. There is also the theory that an independantly suspended vehicle will handle better with less side wall flex- thus bigger wheels. Unfortunately, there arent as many beadlock options for 14" wheels. Why do we run 9" tires on all 4? #1 less rotating mass on the rear= more available power/ acceleration #2 when attending some races ( like vegas to reno) you are required to have on hand a specific number of spare tires/wheels. having only one size make things much simpler. We never felt any more stable on wider tires so it only made sense to keep doing what we were doing. Our race results show that it's working for us, or at least not hurting, but not everybody races...... If you like to crawl around on rocks and stuff, you might prefer the extra sidewall that the 12" rim size will offer. Did I answer any questions or was that just a bunch of rambling on?
