Toy Hauler Remodel - Vertical Bed Lift

Hello

I bought a 2002 19' toy hauler last year. I have taken out the flooring, dining bench and the murphy bed - want to repaint and add some 1/16 diamond plate to the inside side-walls.

I would like to ditch the murphy bed and get a dual bed system that will lift vertically. I've seen all the links for HappyJac - but too expensive.

Anyone ever design a manual lift for their toyhauler? I know if will need some side bracing....

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

There are rv junk yards that you may be able to buy a used setup. 06 and newer trailers use electric beds.

Re: Toy Hauler Remodel - Vertical Bed Lift

Called the one here in Colorado, they do not have any toy haulers - and there is no national directory (like there is for auto salvage). So will either have to start a state search or do some thinking to design my own.

Re: Toy Hauler Remodel - Vertical Bed Lift

There is a respectable sized "parts yard" in the middle of Missouri north side of I-44.
Basically entire RVs wrecked or parts taken off.
Guessing that would be a desirable part and they wont give that away even if you can find one.
There isnt much to those. Wouldn't Camping World be the ticket?
Good luck anyway

Try making contact with Walts RV in Fontana, CA. thats all they seem to do is parts and pieces for RV's. Sometimes emailing is better than calling. Honestly the place is amazing and also a mess to find things but they seem to know where everythings at?

Also try this listing...has rvsalvage link too.

Happy shopping and I have the HappiJac in my rig so I think your onto something here as long as you can find it and support it properly what ever that might be?

Peace

Yes, we built a bed lift for a queen size/full size bed in our converted enclosed trailer. I am helping a member on Rhino Forums do this same exact thing right now, email me for the thread on the forum

Re: Toy Hauler Remodel - Vertical Bed Lift

I helped a friend build a set in his trailer. We used Unistrut for the uprights, and large pieces of teflon we cut in the table saw about 8" long and rabbeted the 2 sides so it would slide within the unistrut. It worked out well, but it wasn't as easy as pushing a switch.

I just got a custom built 35 x 8.5 with 8 foot interior walls. I am just starting the process to convert into a toy hauler. What dimensions do the Happijac need to work properly?

Re: Toy Hauler Remodel - Vertical Bed Lift

The rails that attach to the walls are : 89" tall and 53 1/2 " wide
The crossbar that goes beween the walls is adjustable. The brackets that set the bed heights are adjustable. Click image for larger version

Yes! I built one, and it works reasonbly well. Much like yourself, I combed the internet looking for answers before jumping in with both feet and designing my own. Let me know if you would like the details.

Re: Toy Hauler Remodel - Vertical Bed Lift

This is the bed I made for my trailer a few years back. Originally it had 4 gas struts to assist with lifting and lowering. I have since reduced that to 2. It slides in uni-strut at the rear and rests on aluminum brackets at the front. The mattress is a queen inflatable.
I would really like to see some pic's of the Teflon inserts in the uni-strut. I have been thinking about trying that for a while.
