RZR setup in short bed pickup

I thought I might share some pictures on how I have hauled my RZR in the back of my short bed pickup for several thousand miles. From time to time I need to check and retighten the tie down straps for slight shifting. It hasn't fallen out of the back yet. I have tried backing it into the bed, but that can get alittle scary. It is very important to secure the ramp so that it doesn't slide out when your halfway into the bed. I use a chain attached to the hitch and ramp. I drive it up the ramp in 4x4 low and press the front tires against the 4x6 stops on the front. That keeps the front end from going through the rear window. The 4x6 are secured with long screws and glue to the 2X12. The 2x4 keeps the 2x12 separated and secured up against the wheel wells. I also have half inch spacers at the end to keep the 2x12 above the tail gate. Let me know if you see anything I could do to improve this shade tree set up.

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

one thing you might want to do is back it in... this will take all the weight off the tail gate.

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

The wooden planks take the weight off the tailgate, except when loading. I would like to back mine into the truck. Does anyone have a trick that makes this an easier process. I may need more practice and guts.

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

I Have a 2000 F250 short bed I crawl My Razr up into it Backwards I also have a block of wood to keep the Bumper out of the window. The Ramps Are long aluminum with straps that go to the hitch but the more I continue to do It the more I think about buying a car hauler. Eventually those little steel straps that hold the tailgate level are gonna give plus with a car hauler maybe my wife will let me fill the space with a 09 rzrs haha

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

I've hauled my rzr in the back of my toyota shortbed and it was a very scary feeling. No problem backing it in,here at home, with a nice little bank to back up to. Also no problem unloading it goin forward at my riding location. But when the riding trip is over and having to back up in that truck using ramps is something I dont want to every have to do again! It wont fit forward due to the front bumper.

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

might want to replace the tailgate straps with replacement steel brackets. back it in also. there is still a lot of weight on your gate even with those planks. the wood flexes and still puts weight on it. I've hit a few good dips in the road and there is a slight bow to my gate now. do a search here on towing the RZR. there are threads on trucking the RZR. I ended up buying an enclosed 6X12 trailer which I like better because it also houses all my tools and extras inside out of sight.

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

that is definitely the smallest truck i have seen that has had a rzr in the box.... it might look more proportional if you try loading the truck on top of the rzr

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

Not to be a stick in the mud, but the Rzr in back of the toyota looks like an accident waiting to happen. As an Rv'er, most of the traffic fatalities I'm made aware of are a direct result of mis-matched equipment, i.e., not enough tow-rig for the job.

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

Anybody run risers? I have seen a shortbox Dodge hauling a RZR. He had some risers built. It sat at like a 45 degree angle, but it worked.

Re: RZR setup in short bed pickup

Well here are a couple of short bed hauls I've done with my RZR

In my Dodge M37:

In my Ford F-250 Short Bed, I've actually bent the wheel wells as the wider tired tried to go between the wheel wheels, so I'm not hauling in that truck any more.
