Well I have finally decided to update to a new pick up. I have narrowed my search down to 2. The dbl Cab 08 Tundra NEW or a used 2500HD chevy. Both will haul and tow what i need too. leaning towards the DBL cab tundra. They just have such great deals on them right now. I'd like to hear from you guys that own either to hear your opinions on both Good and BAD Not worried about fuel milage as I only drive on Weekends or trips.

The minute you hook anything to a toyota your mileage will drop by 30%. I've been towing with Toyotas for years but the mileage sucks.

I got a Titan and the milage while towing is great.

I have had zero problems with all the toyota trucks I've owned..which is 4 now.

I have an 08 tundra dble cab and its great towing my RZR, snowmobiles or camper. mileage on all the 1/2 ton larger engines suck with these gas prices...so take your pick.

get the deisel

This is more of a personal preference. I have a 2007 dbl cab tundra. I do agree, that as soon as you start to tow, the mileage goes way down. However, with the current price of diesel, I'm not certain it really matter, beside as you said you don't care so much about mileage. I love my toyota, it pulls all my toys and toy hauler with easy. Only complaint I've had, is it ate through the first set of tires pretty fast. Though I think that has more to do with the driver. Also I saw someone pipe in about his Titan. I test drove both, still went with the Tundra, besides from what I read, Nissan will stop building their own Titan, pushing it off to Dodge. Not that I have a problem with Titans, my wife drives an 08 Pathfinder with the 5.6 in it (its mileage is worse towing then the tundra on the same trailer). One thing I liked better with the Titan, was the stereo, the bose stereo system is way better then the JBL system in the toyotas.

how heavy a load are you towing? i would figure that out with an actual # before I went truck shopping.

Once you tow with and drive a diesel truck you will not want to go back to a gas motor again!

yup diesel. they are almost giving them away now. i pulled with a 1/2 ton gaser and then went to a diesel and woah what a difference. much better to have a heavier truck to keep it safe on the road. its great to pull steep grades without putting your foot through the floor and hoping you dont over heat. just motor on up the hill passing all of the gassers while you are hauling ass with the ac blasting.

Diesel Chevy for sure. You won't see much of a decrease in mileage when towing, because they are a brute! Unless you are towing like a 50 foot toy hauler. You won't even feel a 24-25' trailer behind you. I just set a friend up with the Banks Monster Exhaust and Banks Six Gun and his gas mileage is impressive for the size and weight of that truck. Diesel fuel is a little more $, but for the economy it gets...its well worth it!!! Not to mention the power it has! Make sure you get the LBZ Duramax ('06-'08 trucks), much more power than the older LLY Duramax

For what it's worth I get 10-12 mpg while pulling my 38' toy hauler it weighs around 17k lbs it's a 05 1 ton Cummins.

Diesels come with a standard 100k mile warranty. They dont even break in to around 50k miles. 20+ mpg empty and depending on size of trailer and load your looking at 18-10 mpg towing. Nothing beats a diesel especially with an Allison transmition.
