Lets talk Enclosed Trailers w/Living Quarters....NO TOY HAULERS!!

Okay guys went to River Run this weekend and it was great except for the storm and all our crap getting wet. Looking at some options here. I do NOT want a toy hauler cause I think RVs are junk. Looking at the enclosed trailers with living quarters in the front but at about $20K I think it is a little too much for the budget. We dont mind tent camping just want some dry stuff. We dont plan on staying out a week at a time or anything like that where we need showers and stuff. We can all pee in the woods. Dont get me wrong all that is nice but $20K for that vs. $6-9K for an enclosed trailer is alot of money. Looking at about 24'. Here is a kicker. I do want some beds and such....foldout, etc. Post up some pics or some threads to something like what Im talking about. Did a search but it only got me about 10 posts and didnt find any of them very helpful. thanks!

Go with a Cab over camper and an enclosed trailer, versatile and a lot less money!

Re: Lets talk Enclosed Trailers w/Living Quarters....NO TOY HAULERS!!

Been there, done that! (swimming in the tent) Never again! We bought a 7x14 V nose aluminum trailer with a rear ramp door, and an RV style side door...the kind with a paddle latch, not a cam bar lock. I have painted the interior white, added lighting, shelving, 30 tie down loops, E-Track on the floor and a nice rubber mat that the RZR fits on 100%. We unload the RZR, and have a Coleman double high queen matress that sets up in 5 minutes. Also added a $100 portapot, and I made a wooden frame out of 1x12's so it is ADA height for the bride. The entire project, start to finish? $5400! I am adding a Polar Cub roof top AC unit so my 2K generator can run it if we dry camp.
After 34 years of camping, and owning a variety of rigs over the years, this is by far and away the most fun we've had. I will post picks tomorrow. BTW, you can get a 20' model for around $6k raw, and finish it up as far as you want or need to!

There is a company that makes the fold down beds and tables for most RV companies by the name of flexsteel I think. You might be able to buy direct or go thru camping world.

Re: Lets talk Enclosed Trailers w/Living Quarters....NO TOY HAULERS!!

Not doing the truckbed camper thing, rodeo camper, whatever you wanna call it...BUT I do have a friend that has one I can maybe pick up pretty cheap and use the stuff out of it to outfit an enclosed trailer to my likings. Not real concerned with having a toilet. We can crap/pee in the woods, even my fiancee cause she is cool like that. Mainly just wanting some beds, table, stereo, etc to make life at camp fun instead of wet and sucky.

What are some good name enclosed trailers? I know Pace, etc. But dont wanna buy John Deere name brand stuff when I can buy the same stuff for thousands cheaper. Here is a little kicker. Im also into the rockcrawling crowd and have a rig that is about 83" wide and about 7' tall so I need that much room to house that if I decide to take it sans the RZR. Its way heavier than a RZR so need bigger axles to accomodate that weight.

Re: Lets talk Enclosed Trailers w/Living Quarters....NO TOY HAULERS!!

I posted this in an earlier thread..and I'll keep doing it untill I can buy an RV!!

Call me basic and "cheap" right now...But I have a 24' enclosed car hauler 2010 brand new...We haul our RAZR and my sons 170 ect....8K generator in there as well as all the camping stuff...Once I unload it.. I just close up the back, we use the side door, We have those air up queen size beds with the stands under em' My wife turns that trailer into a little house all 24' worth of it.. we have a kitchen table bed lights ect...generator runs it all.. Sometimes on long trips I even throw in the small fridge...If I havnt bought an RV to pull it to Glamis next year, thats what Ill be doing..If I get an RV, well then I guess my days of "slumming" it are over..(and it "aint" slummin, cause the wife really sets it up NICE!!) Sometimes when i get back after going for a 30 min ride and walk in, You would swear you were standing in an RV setup with everything from heating and airconditioning to lights and a kitchen...They sell portable everything now-a-days!! Just a thought......My wife wont sleep in a tent....Too many bears in Alaska..But this Trailer is GREAT!!

Re: Lets talk Enclosed Trailers w/Living Quarters....NO TOY HAULERS!!

Wow thats weird Half my post vanished. Thanks, Yep I made it. Its got Gas hotwater heater, AC, Bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Has 46 gallon freshwater tank, 15 black water and 36 greywater. Power converter, Radio with Cd player and MP3 hook up. Two speakers inside, two outside. Few other odd and ends. To bad you have an S lol. I'm selling my trailer now for 8500 OBO.. It fit my standard RZR very well. But now since I've added a LT, doors, ect. Its a tight fit through the back door. I'm going to sell this one and build a 7 foot wide.. mine is 6'x14' Weights about 2800Lb dry.

FWIW I couldn't agree more with you on toy haulers.. Growing up my family had an RV dealer ship.. Campers are built pretty damn cheap.. From what I've seen they are only worse now. Steel framed cargo trailer is the way to go IMO.. Built better and won't fall about in a couple months if it gets a leak..

Oh no, Im good, mines at 68 1/2" (RZR) wide and I still have a almost a foot of of room on each side in my 24Ft trailer..Mine is a 24 ft enclosed car hauler..I can even pull my wifes 2010 dodge ram 1500 Laramie inside this trailer...Thats why I am so excited about what you did!! Its really cool!!

I can actually see doing something like this.. I plan to get an RV but it seems like every time I go camping I bring someone along or I meet someone out there and I think it would be so cool if I had an RV towing this, and was able to say..hey, forget your tents...Take the little house!!

Don't forget you can get one of these from us! I know, big money. I use to build small 16'+ enclosed race trailers and might start back building them again.

Re: Lets talk Enclosed Trailers w/Living Quarters....NO TOY HAULERS!!

You can simplify your bedding by going side to side with bars and using plywood and foam as the decking. You should be able to store two queen beds within the nose of the trailer within 4-6".. just a thought.
