Okay guys went to River Run this weekend and it was great except for the storm and all our crap getting wet. Looking at some options here. I do NOT want a toy hauler cause I think RVs are junk. Looking at the enclosed trailers with living quarters in the front but at about $20K I think it is a little too much for the budget. We dont mind tent camping just want some dry stuff. We dont plan on staying out a week at a time or anything like that where we need showers and stuff. We can all pee in the woods. Dont get me wrong all that is nice but $20K for that vs. $6-9K for an enclosed trailer is alot of money. Looking at about 24'. Here is a kicker. I do want some beds and such....foldout, etc. Post up some pics or some threads to something like what Im talking about. Did a search but it only got me about 10 posts and didnt find any of them very helpful. thanks!

Well I think I have come to the conclusion that buying an enclosed trailer is out. The main reason is because my rockcrawler. I can fit it in fine with a 102" wide and 7' tall but once I get to the wheelwells I have to go on top of them. Im just thinking that is gonna make it not work because of height issues. Im not at home so I cant measure the rockcrawler till next week......need to do that. What Im thinking is buying about a 30' gooseneck car hauler and building living quarters on the front. I just happened to find this one for sale. Only problem is my dang truck with 6" lift and 37" tires.

It started life as a 30' car hauler and the living quarters and the side walls in the back were added. Im still gonna have to cut off the walls in the back but thats cool.....I dont like them anyway. Its got a bed above the neck, sink, AC/heat, fridge, toilet and tub/shower. Plus all the fresh, black and grey tanks. Its not loaded out but has everything we need for about the price of a nice empty Pace 24' enclosed bumper pull.

Well after finding out that the gooseneck above is already spring over (meaning I cant go higher with it without extensive mods) I think Im giving up on it. I found this trailer here in S. Carolina. Its a 2004 Continental Cargo 24' V-nose that is 102" wide, 7'7" tall, fully finished walls, rubber coin floor, lighted very nicely, nice shelving in front, 5200 lb axles, elec jack, 500w lights on the outside walls. Very nice trailer. I can get it for $5K but its 851 miles away. I have never minded traveling for the right deal.

I got my bid back from Pace for a 2011, 24' Ralley, 102" wide/7' tall, fully finished, insulated, light package, 5200 lb axles, etc was right at $9100 bucks. Gotta drive 2 hours to pick it up. Here is a pic of the CC trailer.

thats a nice trailer ^^ for 5k. But plan on another $700-1000 to go get it....(gas, food, atleast one $50 motel i would think). Then being an 04' you prolly plan to put another $200-500 in it depending on tire wear, brake wear, bearings, and other minor things to get it 100% ready (prolly wouldnt have to do this, i just like to start my shit with a clean slate if its used). Just some stuff to think about....

yep you have to look at the total picture. Tires, brakes, gas and travel expense to go pick up.. I would also call a dealer and price a new one. Pace trailers are pretty expensive.. Nice trailers, but you need to compare apples to apples..

I used to drive trucks for a living. I can do a turn around on that.....well I used to could anyway. I figure $500 on diesel. Its straight interstate all the way. The owner said it could use tires but most of its life it has set around or used on very short trips. Used to haul a racing gocart so not much heavy abuse I dont think. Inside is spotless. Here is a pic.

Not sure if I mentioned it or not but a buddy of mine has an Arctic Fox slide in camper that flipped off the side of a gooseneck when he was unloading it. Said I could have it for $150 bucks. Surely there is some stuff in there I could use to put in my trailer.

As for going an getting this trailer.....I really dont wanna drive that far. Can I, no problem. What if I get there and there is something that he didnt notice and I dont like. Well.....you either load it up and deal with it or waste two days of your life and $500 bucks. Its a tossup. An identical Pace is gonna be about $11K. With the double extra tall roof, rubber coin floor, outside halogen lights, etc.

Yes a new pace like that is 11k, But what does a new Continental Cargo like that run. Prices can very a lot.. That trailer new might be 8k. Still cheaper, but you know what I mean.

Yeah I know what your saying. I just found this CC trailer last night so wont be able to call dealers till tomorrow. I dont know anything about CC trailers. Ive always seen Pace or Haulmark around the tracks. From what I seen on the net they make some pretty nice stuff. This rockcrawler is killing everything. Even though most places I like to go with that have a hotel we always stay at. And to boot mine has been broke down in the shop for the last year....yes one year as of last weekend. I usually pull it on an 18' trailer. I just hate to buy an enclosed trailer and not be able to use it for everything. Passed up some smokin deals cause it wont fit in the back.

I rolled it down a hill four times at Black Mountain back in July... Dog and I were both safe. Its coming back with the 2010 orange madness plastic though!!

Well about talked myself out of this. Was gonna go with a flatbed gooseneck with living quarters on the front but the closest place I can find to buy one was in Georgia. Found a local place that said they could do it but then called back and said they couldnt guarantee it not to leak so they backed out. Mite hold off and buy a pusher RV and pull the open trailer behind it with whatever I want on it. There are some pretty good deals out there on those things. I dont know much about em but you can find them all day long that are 30-38' with trusty Cummins in them with about 50K miles on them around $30K or less.

Bring up an old thread....

Recently I went to Windrock in TN. My wife and I had the opportunity to meet Will (8ball). If you think his little trailer he posted pics here was nice, you should see the 24’ enclosed trailer he did.

REALLLY nice....

So, it got me to thinking... I’ve decided to go the same route. I have priced out trailers stock and done and like Glen, I got a price quote from Millennium. I’m not sure if they’re prices have dropped but a 28’ trailer that was pretty much a premium piece with partial kitchen and full bath was $20K.

Nice trailer but too much IMO. I clicked on the VRV link that someone suggested... pretty cool. I put a call into them, I guess we’ll see what they have to say.

Give me a wrench or paintgun and I can make it work... give me a saw and some electrical tape and I’ll burn your house down...lol. I’m trying to have the trailer people do the harder/tedious stuff. (ie. insulation, wiring, plumbing, etc, etc)

$20K sure would buy a lot of hotel rooms...lol.

Yeah, got in touch with a guy named Don who put me in touch with a woman in TN. who was extremely knowledgeable about the trailers. The build time was like 12 weeks (hell, I can special order a mini from across the pond for that kind of time...lol)

Definitely like the trailer, as I said in the other thread, not sure it justifies the money spent for the half a dozen times a year I’ll use it.

Thanks for the compliment mark!

Round about how much does those VRV trailers run?
As far as the expense part goes, we just like to camp. We also like being able to get up and go from the trailer to the trail vs pulling out of a hotel and trailering to the trail head. Cost wise I'm sure camping isn't cheaper then staying in motels.. You have to look though plenty of people buy trailers just to camp. We use them to haul our machines to go trail ride and to camp. Heck I had a couple of kayaks in mine this past weekend and we went and camped at the river. Didn't even bring the RZRs. I also Really like the fact that my RZR is in a enclosed trailer while we are on the road.. I don't have to worry about something blowing off or someone messing with my machine while we are eating at a stop.. The other advantage is we just leave everything in the trailer. So we don't have to pack the truck before we leave. All we do is put some cloths in the closet. All our camping gear, soap, toothpaste, blankets, pillows, even a lot of our food just stays in the trailer. Makes loading up and going much easier.. I've gotten now where I just leave the fridge on in the driveway so even its loaded all the time.. Shorter walk from the garage to the trailer to get a beer anyway :)

This year at the Canadian River mud bogs, some guy brought a rented 20 foot box truck (Budget I think) to the river with a bunch of wood and built a rear wall with a door and a hole for an air conditioner. He lived in it for almost a week. Professional job too. when it was all over, out came the nails and back went the truck.

we went for a "live stock hauler" it's got living quarters sink & cowboy shower full size temper peadic bed & ac/heat fridge & flat panel tv..full length awaning 150 gallons of water.Totally enclosed, better axle's that toyhauler/small enclosed trailer & it don't pull like a huge box. & the price was right & the tags are only $7.00 a year.:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:
