Question Fifth Wheel hitch for Short Bed?

I'm looking at the Pullrite Superglide automatic slider, anyone have one?

Pro's & Con's? I know it's expensive, is it worth it over it long run?

With a manual slider, how often do you have to get out and slide?

I have been told, if you are parked at an angle, you can't unhook, does that mean, any angle?

Sold my tag along, & looking for a hitch to pull my not yet purchased Fifth wheel.

Re: Fifth Wheel hitch for Short Bed?

I did some research on hitches when I started shopping for a 5er. Some people said they never use the sliding feature, some said they wouldn't go with out it. It is probably one of those things that if you buy it you don't need it, but if you don't buy it, then you wish you had... get in a tight camp ground and need to turn sharp, you will want one with a short bed.

I decided to go with a long bed truck and a B&W companion hitch. I am still waiting for the truck to be delivered though.

Pull rite is the best way to go for short beds. I have seen some good deals on Craigs List.

If you can get an auto slide that would be the ticket. I've hit my cab twice now.

Have you used one? I'm curious how much of an issue it is not being able to unhook at an angle

It is the unexpected dip in the ground when you are at an angle that can cause you to hit your cab.

Re: Fifth Wheel hitch for Short Bed?

the slider is a good idea. there are some 5th wheel manufacturers that have dog eared the corners on the lower front and pushed the hitch out to very front to work on a short bed truck. Not sure who it was or if they are still in business. the manual slider isn't bad as long as you keep your head on straight and think about what you are pulling.

So does the slider hitch actually do?

Re: Fifth Wheel hitch for Short Bed?

they slide back to create more room between the cab of the truck and the front of the trailer so the trailer doesn't hit the cab when you turn sharp.
you slide it forward for hauling to put the weight over the wheels of the truck.

Re: Fifth Wheel hitch for Short Bed?

I knew it had to do with turning but that makes sense
kinda sucks cuz you may make a turn to tight before you slide the hitch

I just bought a long bed and have one available if you (or anyone) is interested. I had a 2004 2500HD. Let me know.
