recommendations on toy hauler

We are thinking about getting a toyhauler or at least an enclosed trailer to drag the rzr around in. We only need it to be able to hold the rzr and the smaller the better I would think. We will be pulling it with a trailblazer ss with trailer brakes and weight distributing hitch. I have researched alot and still feel like I know nothing. Recommendations please to brand, exact models etc. We live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Thanks

Re: recommendations on toy hauler

I don't know if I would recomend towing even a small toy hauler with a trailblazer, but if you do, I would go with a super lite trailer. The aluminum siding is lighter than a fiberglass side. You definetely want to get one with a fuel station being that you won't have a pickup bed for hauling fuel. If you want something used, I know Weekend Warrior had the Super Lite Series. Hope that helps a little.

A buddy of mine pulled a 18' Fun runner with his trailblazer and it struggled pretty hard up the hills and the rear end darn near drug the ground. They may say that they are rated to tow 5K but it will destroy the truck doing it. IMHO of course...

Ours is rated at 6800lbs with weight distributing and 816lbs tongue weight. It has the 400hp LS2 6 liter v8 and a built trans with 3/4 ton 4.10 ratio rear axle. The rear suspension is auto leveling airbags. No trouble pulling power wise, and no issues squating. The only issues would be the size of the tow rig 4700lbs and its wheelbase. We regularly tow our rzr on an 18ft dove tail car hauler and honestly doesnt even seem like its back there. We are just trying to get away from having the rzr in the open and figued we may as well get a toy hauler. The front brakes are 12.8" disks with dual piston corvette calipers and it really seems to help.

Thanks for the replys.

We have an Attitude Eclipse and love it. Very well made. The Z Gravity is their lite version. I am not sure they have anything shorter than 19'.

Re: recommendations on toy hauler

There are a few places in cali and arizona that sell a 16' toy hauler that may weigh around 3500#'s. I think that is the best bet. I'm looking into getting one and seen a few options out there. There's a place in Hemet, CA that makes a basic one for around 11K and is very light weight. They have pics of a ranger being loaded on so the rzr will fit. xpress trailer group is the place. They also have an 18 and 20 footer.

Re: recommendations on toy hauler

You are going to be hard pushed to find a toyhauler with that small a GWVR. The weight really goes up quick when you add fresh water, fuels, propane, RZR, ice chests and beer.

Re: recommendations on toy hauler

Very true. You may end up being better with the lightest and longest trailer you can find and putting in a few amenities. So maybe an 18 ft. enclosed and pick up a Honda 2000 generator, etc. Make a make shift toy hauler. Would be lighter.

Re: recommendations on toy hauler

for the price they want for a toyhauler, i decided to go another rte, i bought a used 26 ft enclosed and outfitted it my self, plain jane kitchen cabinets can be had at lowes or home depot, or if you have an "ins.salvage" place you can find great deals, found a rooftop air unit in a junkyard, works great cost me 25 bucks, biggest expense was the fold up bunkbeds. 3000, for trailer, 2000. for upgrades and i can sleep 6 people and the 30 dollar bar type fridge bought off craigs list will hold 4 cs of beer.
for me worked out better, allowed me to remodel as pocket book allowed, an i own it, no monthly pymt here.
sure my buddies toyhaulers are much more plush, but i dont have that pymt and i dont care if sand gets on the carpet, cause there aint none. lol
poor people got poor ways....

That's good, you are out there to have fun, keeping up with the Jones' does not have to distract from it.
Most will applaud your efforts, screw those who don't.

Good on you. I love my toyhauler, don't love the payment and bottom line is they are just an expensive garage and toilet.

Re: recommendations on toy hauler

most super lights are rated at 5500 to 6800 lbs..... but a trail blazer is to small and i dont think they have 3/4 ton axles.... 3/4 are 8 lug....1/2 are 6 lug. but its still a size thing id never tow a toyhauler with one. yes it could...but maxed out...i like a safety margin...

Re: recommendations on toy hauler

johnnycat, I cringed when I read your reply on the towing vehicle. You are 100% correct on the 3/4 ton 8 lug wheels vs the 6 luggers. I cringed because I flashed back on the days of my "heavy half" ton 1976 GMC pick up with 5 lug wheels. Uh, we pulled a 16' flat bed with 4 snowmobiles up to the Pocono Mtns. at 55mph (thanks jimmy carter)
We did this at sub zero temps, and went down snow covered dirt roads at 30! Never gave it a thought about how hard we were stressing the rear end. We got away with murder and didn't even know it!!! But if a guy is on a budget, you do what you can afford as safely as you can. I've seen guys heading to the deer woods maxxed out beyond belief with a fully loaded 12' trailer, all being pulled by a small Toyota truck. I think they just angle the truck mirrors so they can't see what they are pulling. Ignorance is bliss. hehehe.

I am realizing that more and more...may have to just end up going with an enclosed.
