RZR in the bed of a truck...good or bad

I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to haul my RZR in the bed of my short bed F250. It'll fit. But only with the tailgate down, of course. It just seems to me that it's quite a bit of weight to be resting on the tailgate while riding driving down the road. Any opinions?

A buddy of mine got his welder out one afternoon and made a reciever hitch attachment that when you put it in your reciever it extends a brace out beyond your tailgate with two bars going crossways that your back tires rest in between. Works great and takes the weight off the gate.

I haul mine in my 84' Silverado short bed and it fits fine. I back it in so that the most weight is close to the cab and the front tires sit in the middle of the tailgate.I haven't had any problems so far and its much easier to unload this way.

Backing it in is a great idea. I know they also make a kit where you can replace the wires with a steel hinge.

We did something similar but modified the "load extender" from Harbor Freight and added 2 X 10's to park on. We do get some attention when loading or unloading from other riders. Something about that steep angle on skinny loading ramps make folks want to stop and stare. Be sure to tie your ramps back and use 4WD low range when you're backing into the truck. Oh, make sure that your RZR and the ramps are all lined up straight or you will create a sensation when you drop off the ramp and bend your tailgate!

Thanks for the ideas. Any idea on where I might acquire a set of those steel tailgate supports?

I've also backed mine in to the bed of my pickup, but prefer to haul it on my trailer.

Use the search mode and look up tailgate straps. I posted a site that sells metal straps instead of the cables. I have a set and never worry about weight anymore.

I just put and extra strap per side for support, just a simple cam lock strap works well. extra insurance that your ride or your tailgate won't be bouncing down the highway.

Re: RZR in the bed of a truck...good or bad

Anyone got a picture of the RZR in the back of your truck? I've got a 2007 GMC with the 6.5 foot box, just wondering how far on the tailgate it sits. I don't have a RZR, YET, and I have an idea on a tailgate replacement/support. I'd just like to see how much longer than the box it is.

Thanks
